Then why isn't John Vanbiesbrouck in?

He also got further than Miller did in the playoffs

Miller has 1 thing that might get him in the conversation and that's the Vezina trophy

But he only has 1 of those.

- Stripes77

Miller has the same wins total and played in 136 less games. Miller is tied at 20 for best career save % at .916 and Vanbiesbrouck had a career .899%. Also, Miller has 3 more shutouts and only 48 PIM compared to 310 playing with the delay of game penalty that Beezer never had to deal with.

Couple good points.

Also a few top 3 vezina finishes and a silver medal

- Boss34

From reading a bunch of other posts on this topic I don't believe this is true.

Edit: He was 6th in voting in 06/07 and won in 09/10 and thats it. Not a single top 10 finish besides that.

Contextual save percentages are what to look at imo. He was slightly above average with his peers most years

Miller is first ballot Hall of Good, not HOF

If he hits 400 wins?

Miller's at 374 now.

I say its 50/50 if he wins 400 games in the nhl
Also it's not just the nhl hall of fame, so his international accomplishments should be considered

CuJo and Osgood both over 400 and not in... I just don't think Miller gets in personally. Would i love if he did? Yes. But i dont think the couple years he was GREAT over 15+ years is going to be enough.

Because he has a sub .900 SV % for most of his career.

Miller has same amount of wins in 100+ less games.

You have to have several stats other than Games played to be in.

All time Miller is top 25 in
GP
SV%
Wins

its not as far fetched as some may think, IMO.

He definitely wont be first ballot if he does get in. Again, Miller is a weird case and I have no idea if he gets in, but i wouldn't be shocked to eventually hear his name get called.

I think it’s closer than some think, but if he would’ve won or won some playoff rounds after Bufalo it would be closer

I agree. Pretty spot on.

Unless he plays for another few years and wins the cup.

It was a tough situation replacing the dominator.
Not sure Miller ever got enough local credit.
He showed up and played consistently

I think biron was the buffer between them?

- CoHo_to_B-Lo

Yes to the last two.

Osgood was a below average Goalie, but benefited from playing on a Detroit team that was loaded with no cap.

Curtis Joseph has an abysmal stat line.
103 in GAA
71 in SV%
Does have the wins though.

allen is way better than i was expecting but hes still woefully inaccurate sometimes and idk if thats something that can be fixed
- robz228

I'm not seeing this. I see a lot of his WR's (KELVIN BENJAMIN) not know what a back shoulder fade route is, and just a lack of chemistry on most routes.

He overthrows the deep ball but he'll figure that out

Save percentage in general ballooned around that time. Miller played with the huge gear that also benefited King Henrik. It's near impossible to compare save percentages over the course of the NHL. The position and equipment changed so much. I liked Miller fwiw. Definitely US HHOF like Stripes said. He needs Osgood to get in Tronna's HHOF to have a shot imo. Even then I believe he will come up short

It is crazy looking at past sv% vezina winners with under .900 which would never happen in today's NHL.

It's the same reason no one will ever catch Gretzky's goal counts (apart from him being great). The goalie position is so much better

Also, want to point out that although Allen ran it all over the place today and threw a couple picks, he also threw a couple touch downs and on the final drive, he stood in the pocket and threw perfect passes, marched them up the field, ran around like a mad man on the last play to buy time for his WR's and throws a catch-able ball, in the end-zone and his receiver couldn't finish.
- BeadyEyedDouche

Allen looks a lot better imo since he was able to sit out for a few weeks
Putting together drives is something that was a rarity before the injury
He’s still go a ways to go of course,
but it looks like he’s grown for sure
That’s an encouraging sign

Any time a group of guys vote, it's part popularity contest.

Miller is a hockey name.

Both uncles played in the nhl I believe
And his brother.
