You just wait till someone offer sheets Johnsson 9 mil per, and Ennis asks for 7 mil.
It's all going to implode. Leafs should never have gotten too many good players. Everyone knows 2 good players per team. No more. |

They have to get Matthews locked up before July 1st for under 12... it's the only challenge they face, if they can manage to do that, they're in business for a good long while |

That would be a fantastic deal for Toronto, I think it will have to be a bit more or he may wait for an offer sheet... time will tell, should be interesting |

I hope he takes 11.25 x 8. Give him the C to go along with being the highest paid player on the team.
Hope to get Marner signed for less than 9 per. Although not sure that will happen with the way he's been playing this year.
Honestly I would be shocked to see any of these kids even entertain offer sheets. This team has a great core of players and could be competitive for a long time. Guess it depends how much they value money vs winning. |

Zero chance the leafs win a 7 game series with those pylons on the back end. It just won’t happen.
There offence is stellar but eventually that will also dry up in a 7 game long battle.
Maybe kadri just needs a good marchard lick to get his act together as well. Becuase he’s playing terrible. - durlz55
If people are this butthurt now, i can't wait to see what happens when the leafs finish top 5 in goals against and rielly wins the norris. |

A lot of it rests on the shoulders of Matthews and his reps, I don't see Marner being a big issue... If they can sell Matthews on exactly what you said in your post, it will be gravy for awhile in Leaf land! |

Thank you for being level headed and real about all of this.
Some of the saltiness and butthurt out there is tough to read.

I personally don't get it at all, Toronto is a powerhouse and unless something drastic happens, they will be for quite some time... some seem to think that coming to hockeybuzz and saying otherwise will somehow change that... And if any fan of any team doesn't believe that Toronto and its fan base is deserving of this, they should give their head a shake or take the hate shades off, it's long overdue.... And a great reason for my Habs to rebuild, as Toronto, Tampa & Buffalo will own this division for the foreseeable future! |

If you look at those signing bonuses, it sure protects the Leafs to make sure his trade value is incredibly high. Even poorer teams could easily afford the contract after that July 1st, 2019 8.3 milliojn bonus is paid. |

I love how it comes down to only the Leafs D. What is a team going to do to beat the Leafs with those 3 centres? Boston barely hung-on with Matthews hurt and playing bad, Kadri suspended half the series and no JT. People actually seem to expect the Leafs to be an EASIER opponent this year. LOL. Those 3 centres are a match-up nightmare. |

I think the point is the Leafs can trade him if they think it will improve the team.

There can't be a good thing with people who hate the Leafs. Everything will be a disaster. Somehow Willy can never be moved despite his good production, young age, and VERY moveable contract the way it's structured. |

The massive signing bonus next year is because of the cap hit rule that jacked up his cap hit this year and lowered it going forward. They wouldn't get the same cap hit savings if they had more signing bonus and less salary as the pro rating doesn't apply to signing bonuses. So they couldn't do much of it this year. The earliest they could give him a big lump sum up front is next years singing bonus so they did. |

Imagine being a fan of a team who has a less talented roster than Toronto (95% of us) and trying to talk sh** about how this is a bad deal for TOR lol |

Point is, after that 8.3 million bonus is paid in July, he's very tempting to go after, even if you are a team that has financial concerns (I mean actual $, not cap) |
