You can really see the seething jealousy coming out from Leaf haters. Up until 4pm they would never have criticized an easily tradeable 6.9M cap hit over 5 years, but now that their hopes of the Leafs not getting Nylander signed have been dashed the transparent pettiness begins. - Kayakjack
Maybe the Leafs can still trade Nylander for Keith at the 6.9m number....might be harder now but maybe the Blackhawks will cave.

Too bad for the Loafs - overpaid by about $1M - still didn't fix the "D". I can't wait for the implosion in TO next summer when the have to start jettisoning players / contracts without a cup. Can you say 52 and counting ? - Iago
There you go focusing all your attention on the D again. Don’t forget to give the balls a little play too. |

Brian Burke is on Hockey Night in Canada criticizing the hell out of the Leafs for a 6.9M cap hit on Nylander because the Leafs are not a cup contender. Then..he revealed his true pettiness when he questioned whether or not you put Nylander ahead of Gardiner...his acquisition. The same 30 year old Gardiner still learning how to play D. Nylander....is 22. Are Brian Burke and Donald Trump related? - Kayakjack
As Mirtle just pointed-out, Burke gave Komisarek the equivalent of 6 million per as Leafs GM. LOL. |

You have to tip your cap to the Nylander camp, they stood their ground and got the huge pay day they were looking for. Dubas knows he couldnt let the deadline hit, this was a sheer panic move and will cripple him in next years signings. As I said this guy and the media paint him as a genius, its going to be fun watching this blow up in all their faces

The Nylander contract is the start of the end for Dubas. He completely caved at the last moment giving Nylander 7.5 for 6 years. This screws the Leafs for Marner and Matthews next year. Marner agent will take Mitch and his top 5 point leader status in the league to a contract of 12 Million plus knowing Dubas will cave, and Matthews will see an offer sheet for 14 Million per. Dubas should have let Nylander sit out the year, now the Leafs will probably lose Marner or Matthew as they can’t have 3 players in excess of 11 Million. Kapanen’s agent will probably also be looking for 6 million, he too may be gone. So much for long term Leaf success. Keeping a team together is no longer possible in a cap system. Maybe letting Matthews go for 4 first rounds might be the better way to go that matching a 14 Million per season deal. |

You lost all credibility at 12 million for Marner. |

Everyone will be skipping the bridge deal now. That's the new NHL. - RogerRoeper
See:
Reinhart, Sam
Botterill, Jason
Reinhart and Nylander's numbers are almost identical, too.
I'd rather not have that large-headed, entitled wanker and I'm not even a fan of Reinhart. I doubt Nylander ever gets past 70 points. |

6.9 million is the cap hit.
And yes, he will sign Matthews and Marner
The highest paid NHL winger gets 10.5 million. Marner is not getting 12+ million per. No chance. |

Nylander will be playing with Matthews for years. He will blow past 70 easily.
Reinhart hit 50 once in 4 full seasons. Nylander in his first 2 full seasons has 2 60 point seasons. |

Yeah not sure how 6.9 is some big loss for the Leafs. And yet if he doesn't sign today it would be because Dubas is a moron.. |

I went into more detail in another post, this sets up Willie nicely for 2 big contracts and he gets paid really went during his RFA years.
Nowhere did I say that this was a bad deal for Toronto, but they had a lot of leverage on Willie. |

Again, nowhere did I say this was a bad contract for the Leafs. Nylander is a 1st line winger, 7M for a 1st line winger isn't a bad contract lol.
I'm saying Willie did well to get this term/dollar amount to maximize his career earnings.
And no, I wouldn't call Dubas an idiot. |
