If teams can't ever go over the cap, why can Arizona cheat and never actually pay to the cap minimum and it's allowed?

The real issue now is RFAs are being paid like UFA, so you are punished by drafting well. The Leafs struck gold 3 years in arow on their top 10 picks, but that actually hurt them.
Something hass to be done about this with early 20's players being paid so much.

Which is why I don't hate the idea of bridge signing our youth. Because who knows what the new cba brings if there is one.

I do think it’s overblown a bit...I think it’s always been that way...at least top RFA’s.

Kane and Toews 6 yearx6.3M contracts they got out of their ELC’s in 2010 would be 6x9million in todays cap.

What if the new CBA brings back salary rollbacks like the previous one. I would hate to sign a team friendly contract just to have a league wide 10-15% rollback.

Definitely a huge risk. I dont like the bridge idea but the uncertainty makes me not hate it. But the roll back would only happen if the cap went down by a big enough margin. The reason it happened last time was to allow teams to transition into the cap world. I think.

Yeah I am not sure it would happen again, but it is a possibility if the league feels the cap has grown too fast. Eventually there is going to become a time profits hit a peak and growth is stalled. The assumption the cap will always increase would be crushing for business.

Exactly. The big contracts coming up make me nervous. At least the players are definitely worth it.

The Leafs did a huge overhaul for their top management with a lot of league connected people. Would not doubt one bit they are trying to manage that inevitable situation now then wait for it to happen. On the flip side Nylander's camp probably thinks they are just trying to get a better deal.

As I write that, now I am worried the Flyers sign someone in the offseason to a massive deal that is going to kill them in 4 years.

Watching the #Nylander tweets right now and wondering how do many people apparently missed that @DarrenDreger already leaked it. $6.855 for three years! Go Leafs.

I could accept a Nylander type contract (3 years @ 6 per) for Simmonds at most. Personally his time in Philly has expired and should be shopped.
