Brown may be a PKer, but so are Hyman, Johnsson, Kapanen, JT and Marner - and they're all better at it than Brown.
- lumlums

I don't think all of them are better at it than him. He's very good at it. One of leafs best defensive forwards.

I think Ennis is 1st guy to take a seat but Babs will bounce him in and out depending how Brown - Leivo - Johnsson play

Plus someone will be injured so it won’t be long for whoever sits.

It's in the cba. Only the leafs have cap issues, only leaf players can be offer sheeted.

Leaf players don't like it here anyways.

Why are you guys even talking offer sheets? Right now your team has the best chance as anybody to win the cup this year. Who cares about next year? Enjoy this year for goodness sakes!

Lindholm isn't sitting in favour of Ennis playing center that makes no sense.
- burn

Yeah I guess Ennis at C is a bit of a stretch. I think he's been better than Lindholm lately though.

I do know that someone who starts a sentence with "is leafs the..." is not looking for an in depth, sincere response.

Ennis is so much meh. He doesn't do anything any better than the guys he's in competition with, and he's not as big, doesn't play C, or isn't as good defensively/play pk like the others.

To me he seems like the overwhelmingly easy choice to sit. If some injured or really starts to struggle he can spell them for a bit.

Yes. Sit Ennis.

Though i don't mind him as the 13th to fill in for an injury.

Yeah, it's true.

We can never have nice things.

I think my favourite people here are the ones who proclaim doom and gloom and then can't even get their numbers right.

He allows the most 4v5 shot attempts out of all 6 pkers - Marner, JT and Kap are the best there by a margin.

To be fair, I bring it up.

I mention it because people here keep using the argument that Matthews is not better than McDavid and therefore won't get paid more.

I think we all agree that McDavid > Matthews, but there is more to it than that. Agents negotiate on percentage of cap, and Matthews as an RFA would be too tempting for teams.

I guess that Dubas signs both before they are RFA, but it will be 5 year deals so they can afford them, but not buy up UFA years.

He has flashes of shifty play here and there, but when he's not doing that, he gets easily out-muscled and knocked off the puck.

I think I'd rather keep Goat around too, so I'd move Ennis to a team that needs scoring help (CAR, maybe?) for a late pick.

But everyone keeps forgetting that Matthews has to actually want to sign an offer sheet and unless the Leafs are going to royally screw up his next contract (see: "not a chance"), he's here long-term.

Marner is unbelievable.

I don't remember ever seeing a guy who could seemingly skate in a combination of directions all at once and then make passes like that.

He is starting to look like when he played junior.

Absolutely, you are right, and I do think that the team is good enough that Marner and Matthews will get paid VERY well, but may settle for less than actual market. I believe the answer is the 5 years.

After that... well the Leafs will have a whole ton of choices between now and then, and after, and we'll all know who they need to keep ...
