Not living in Edmonton is easily worth a haircut. Plus sponsorship money and a red coat. - leafsfann
Exactly. In Toronto, Matthews got a deal with Porsche. In Edmonton, McDavid got a deal with a snow shoveling company. |

I seriously hope that pretty-boy douchebag Nylander doesn't sign. He can go frank himself.

Does that deal come with a 25 year old Mr Plow jacket? Maybe it's not so bad after all. |

Is leafs the most outshot team in NHL? But who cares when Andersen saves 40+ shots every night. |

Agreed.
But his deal with be based on a certain percentage of the cap and that percentage will be close to what mcjesus signed.
With the cap 2 years higher than when mcj signed, means ams cap hit could be higher. - Fakepartofme
It is also based on the fact that there will be teams ready to offer sheet him more and everyone knows it.

Because Dustin Penner signed one a long time ago, and his pancake eating ability easily trumps Matthews. |

in regular circumstances, I do not think they are a huge concern. Even in cases like Nylander, where you have an exceptional young player, they aren't much of a concern.
When you have a guy like Matthews potentially available, or Marner even, actual franchise players, it is not tough to imagine those 4 first rounders being worth it. There are some desperate teams out there, that could make cap space like Montreal and AZ. |

Most of the teams that could outbid for services aren't very good though. Go from a playoff team and possible contender to a junk team for a little bit extra? I'd say a player who doesn't think they'll ever face a big payday again does that, not a star whose going to get paid either way. |

I don't see it happening to be honest. Yeah, you could be hurting the Leafs but then you'd still have to pay Matthews all that money, meaning you really can't spend money on anyone else and have to part with 4 first round draft picks. On top of all that, Matthews still has to actually sign the offer sheet |

That part usually goes unmentioned. Who was the last player to sign one btw? ROR? That was probably motivated more by his desire to leave Colorado than the dollars. |

Dubas said Nylander called him at 4:30 PM EST and asked if he wanted to do a deal. It literally came down to one side breaking at the last minute. |

It could occur. Burke was gonna offer sheet kessel.
Matthews is the perfect player to offer sheet

Not sure, but I do know that the Leafs are #1 in causing butt-hurt to fans of other teams who have small weiners.
