Yep. That 8.3 million bonus on July 1st, 2019 makes his value even more after they pay it. - RogerRoeper

It's not like it's forcing them to trade someone or anything but it's 3.3m they could of used to upgrade the D at the deadline for a run. This may be there best chance to win a cup with Marner and Matthews pull a Nylander. - HealthyScratch6
They still have 5m in cap space... |

Yeah and there's no D available that will have 5 million left on the cap at the deadline. |

He wasn't completely wrong. The leafs did give in. I don't think 6.9 for Nylander is a bad number but the signing bonus (frank)ed the leafs. Not a huge deal but he got paid for sitting out and got a bunch of money up front. Leafs should of got cap savings for him sitting out this long. But instead they basically got a 3.3m cap penalty this year and no savings going forward. If Matthews holds out next year we'll end up with a 20m cap hit - HealthyScratch6
The problem is that if they don’t give in a bit then he sits for atleast a year. Maybe they get pennies on the dollar in a trade but the window is opening this year and they are contenders. If they botch a year over a couple hundred thousand (cap hit) in signing bonuses it’s a fail on the organization.

Nylander’s cap hit in the years that matter (2-6) will start with a 6. It’s a win for the Leafs. - Steven_Seagull
Its 4000 less than a 7. So not a huge win.
Nylander may still get moved in order to sign marner and matthews.....after July 1st. |

Isn’t everything a lot cheaper at deadline because the team has already paid like 70% of the contract?
So if a person has 10 million contract that year going into ufa (as an example) is really only like 3 million against the cap for the leafs? 5 million at the deadline would be a lot of money. |

There's also the argument that could be made, that his value is now higher that he's signed to term and not a giant question mark. Whatever happens a week from now, a month from now, at the deadline, whatever / whenever, the only right decision was signing him. |

Agreed. I'm glad he's back. The signing bonus isn't a bad thing either.

Agreed.
But his deal with be based on a certain percentage of the cap and that percentage will be close to what mcjesus signed.
With the cap 2 years higher than when mcj signed, means ams cap hit could be higher. |

According to CapFriendly, the Leafs will have 23.9m cap space by the deadline. Damn, that Nylander contract really screwed us...
Edit: the current cap space is over 7m, not 5m. lolz LOAD UP, LETS GO |

I seriously hope that pretty-boy douchebag Nylander doesn't sign. He can go frank himself.
Sunday 5 pm deadline, right? |
