Lupul was also injured every other game and once cracked his ribs sneezing. I may have made that up. But still! - PatC80
He had a couple good years before it went downhill. He was great on his off wing though.
Good ol’ Beauchmin (sp) free agent signing got us lupul and gardiner. |

Not contenders but William Nylander is their 7th best player. - RogerRoeper
Burke was in a pissed off mood tonight. I usually like his takes, but he was pissed for some reason tonight. He was reaching on a lot of points. |

Burke was mad about the Nylander signing. Was hoping he wouldn't sign, so that Burke could say Dubas failed. |

It’s funny how he was good. Leafs sign him and then he sucked. Traded back to Anaheim and plays better again.
Looking at a good team now makes you realize just how bad the leafs were. |

He wasn't completely wrong. The leafs did give in. I don't think 6.9 for Nylander is a bad number but the signing bonus (frank)ed the leafs. Not a huge deal but he got paid for sitting out and got a bunch of money up front. Leafs should of got cap savings for him sitting out this long. But instead they basically got a 3.3m cap penalty this year and no savings going forward. If Matthews holds out next year we'll end up with a 20m cap hit |

Seriously though, that was odd. On how many teams would he be the 7th best player, maybe 2? So despite this and their record they are not a contender AFTER he says that.

Nylander’s cap hit in the years that matter (2-6) will start with a 6. It’s a win for the Leafs. |

Will take a bit to get him back into full game shape I think. |

It actually makes it easier to trade Nylander if they ever have too. Higher cap hit, but money is all up front. |

It's not like it's forcing them to trade someone or anything but it's 3.3m they could of used to upgrade the D at the deadline for a run. This may be there best chance to win a cup with Marner and Matthews pull a Nylander. |

That was painful. 2 first round draft picks that he gets after the kessel trade handcuffed him for 2 years are huge busts.

Not really though, we can manufacture cap space by putting Horton on LTIR. |

Not sure if there's much available, but they still have some room with Hornton. |
