Im sorry, I dont think this is wise. So, I guess we have to trade Kap? Because clearly if these are the amounts relatively unproven players want, we cant afford him... plus a few other guys. Willy was USELESS without Matthews... 3 goals in 20 games...
Now take Willy and trade his arse - Hockey_Reverend

Not seeing Nylander was pure hell.
I mean, can we still even make the playoffs now? |

I’m still alright with it, happy to have him back. Great player, would have liked it lower obviously but I still think it’s a pretty fair deal so whatever. Excited to have him back - ClarksonDavid

Not seeing Nylander was only hell because the team was drastically less handsome in his absence. |

You are confusing cap hit with actual dollars paid.
The reason why the cap hit is so high this year is the bonus paid.

Time to break up the Leafs 'dynasty' before they even win anything, even a round of the playoffs! But yes, lets just cave and give kids millions to play a game.
Uncle Lou would have said, "Take this contract and like it or you will never play for us again. Period." Lou would have put him in his place...

Nylander will have a 6.535 cap hit for the next 5 years. Bhahahahaha - Steven_Seagull
Damn, nice job by Dubas/Gilman there. Still think Willie did decently here since he avoided a cheap bridge deal and sets himself up for one more big payday while he's still in his prime. He had very little leverage with the Leafs playing well without him and still holding his rights next year too.

For those who thought the Leafs overpaid, ask yourselves this: Would you rather have Nylander at 6.9 per, or JVR at 7.0 for the next 5 or 6 years? |

In actual dollars received, nothing to do with cap hits or AAVs, William Nylander is receiving $41.77M over six years, which averages $6.96M per year.

His cap hit appears to be basically 7 million after this year, maybe not though it’s kind of confusing right now. Honestly still pretty good, it’s fair and it’s not a hometown discount like everyone was hoping for though. |
