Option 3) Let him sit till he comes to his senses.
Leafs are fine without him and not going to trade him for 10 cents on the dollar (for Keith).

- Cooshie

Oh, so Toronto is better without him playing or getting value for him??

Imagine the problems the front office will have if the Leafs fail in the playoffs because they didn't sign him, or trade him for defense.

Man, you are so much smarter than these NHL GM's....why aren't you running your own team?

Obsession can be cute at first...

The fact you think, but the team is winning so it can't be true is even cuter. Notice the missing part from the quote? I do. So cute.

A team finishes last.

The next season, they ice the best rookie group in the NHL, probably ever.

That rookie core loses in the first round to the Presidents Trophy team in 6 games, 5 go to OT.
Next year, they lose to a team ranked higher than them, in 7 games.

and THAT is the failure you guys chirp about, all of this shortly after your "better on paper" top-9 was blown out of the arena less than a week ago, by the same team whose fans you were chirping.

Very Spatso/Doppelganger of you. You should be embarrassed.

So keep it...Keith is all yours..
We'll keep Nylander - even if he is parked on the side.

The leafs are in no position to negotiate for the ideal defencemen. You aren't going to get a young, cost-controlled defencemen for nylander. It just isn't going to happen because opposing teams know Toronto has their backs to the door.

Keith is a top pairing defencemen on most teams, has a cost-controlled contract, and is a proven winner. I bet Keith leads Toronto to a cup.

Toronto needs to decide what path they want.

1) Overpay Nylander and give him the contract that he wants.
2) Trade him for less value.

Choose your poison

- RedRevenge

How many years do the leafs own Nylanders rights?

Look at the standings, the team is far from having their backs against the walls. They have a premium asset to shop at their will for years.

We're in the rebuild, we'll trade Keith to some other team at the deadline.

You're in the win-now mode and your team is just worst without Nylander. It's funny to see people try to use option 3 as a viable argument.

the games were good when we sucked, even then the leafs could not get a winning record vs us
- homiedclown

nah... not really.

the Leafs have always been the enemy of the Sabres, for the Leafs there's at least five teams that are much more real rivals.

Sabres fans care much more about this "rivalry" than the Leafs fans do... Leafs fans just like that they can get cheap tickets, hotels without windows, decent wings and cheap gas while watching their home team only a few miles from home.

get over yourselves... you don't matter much

Would be pretty amazing to see Keith lead Toronto to a cup when he will never play a game for them... no (frank)ing way you get Nylander for 35 year old Keith...

If the return is Keith, Leafs will keep Nylander - what don't you get about that!!!

Hawks will not get anything close to Nylander value in any trade for Keith.

It's obvious that the Leafs need defense and this Nylander problem is the perfect solution. It seems like you propose to hold onto Nylander until you can get exact value for him? Wouldn't his skills diminish and so will his value?

Oh their backs are against the wall. The cap is coming and will rip apart this team once Matthews and Marner get there new contracts.

even on the cheesiest game shows... there's always a door #3...

which, surprise surprise the Leafs also have here... let the asset sit on his hands and dimish his value in the process - which would be a far better choice than dumping him for an overaged cap-dump.

Blackhawks will sadly have to look elsewhere to escape their CAP issues.

If this cap bullpoop were accurate, do you really think any competent management group would have held on to him until this point, instead of moving him during his entry level deal? Use your head.

Just stop talking and look at the standings. If you think the team absolutely has to sell low on a premium asset to "fix" where they're currently at... I mean... I don't know what to tell you.

Duncan keith? My God. How bad do things have to be to take 35 year old Duncan Keith for Nylander right now...

Leaf fans are so spoiled. You will NOT get full value for Nylander. Nylander is worth nothing to your team if he doesn't sign with you .

I agree that Keith isn't the best option, but he's still a top defender, a proven winner, and has an affordable contract.
