When Marner plays with Tavares he puts up more points then Eichel. So he is a comparable. I do not think he is better at all. For one he is a center and doesnt need someone else to create the offense for him. He also makes the palyers around him into superstars. Skinner and Pominville perfect examples. Meanwhile John T is not even on pace for his best season.

Oh

so Marner isn't "better than Echiel at all" but deserves Echiel money.....

uhmmmm.....ok...yes....so where are the Leafs with these players?

They signed deals out of their ELC relative to the salary cap(the ones in your example above) , then signed their UFA deals(the deals you are thinking the Leafs are signing Matthews, Marner and Nylander to)

The Leafs are about to sign those "reasonable" deals in the RFA years...JUST like the Hawks did. and JUST like your example above.

- Santo_44

So, that me get this right. You think Matthews and marner are going to sign 3-4 year deals around 6-7 mil?

It is different league when kane and toews signed. Elite Players are being signed to long term deals after first contract and no bridge deals. Look at Eichel and Mcdavid. No way they leave that much on table when they are producing at the rate they are now.

John Tavares is currently on pace for his best season. 94 point pace right now. His highest scoring year was 86 points.

This guy says what he wants to hear not what the reality is

I can't believe that I missed Matthews, Marner and Nylanders RFA years....did we win the cup?

Even if you trade him and marleau. You still cant afford him. Look at the cap. IF you do keep him you will have zero money to improve defense.

7.5 mil in cap after matthews and marner. then trade Horton and Marleau you will have 19 million. you sign kapanen to 2 years @ 3 mil and Nylander 3 years @ 7. you will have 10 million for 4 forwards, goalie and 2 dman. That is having Holl be your six dman.

If you magically sign all 7 players to 1 mil each you will have 3 million of room for extra forward.

PLEASE DO SIMPLE MATH YOU CANT AFFORD HIM AND YOU WILL NEED TO GIVE UP GOOD ASSETS TO GET RID OF DUMB CONTRACTS>

- BigDog912

Horton for all intents and purposes does not count against the cap. The Leafs may need to let Gardiner and Hainsey walk this off-season, which sucks, but they have a ton of good defensive prospects that should be ready in a little while, and plenty of cap once Marleau walks.

Look at his point totals. If he scores 90 points he will get Eichel money. Doesnt mean he has to be better then him. In eichel contract year he should of had 78 points.

DUDE, ffs I will explain this once.

The salary cap was 64.3 million in 2014, it is now 80 million.

Lets use "simple" math as you liked to call it.

It is about a 25% increase from 2014 to 2019.

a 6-7 million dollar contract back then would be a 7.5 million to 8.75 million in todays salary cap.

1.25x6=7.5

1.25x7=8.75

get it?

I appreciate you being nice. But please look at the cap. you do not have alot of money to spend after RFA's are all signed which you 7 RFA.. Also Marleau can not just walk away he is under contract and you cant make up injury for Horton as much as they try.

So you think Matthews will sign for 8.5 million when eichel and mcdavid signed for 12.5 and 10 million? Wow talk about home town discount. 100 bucks it cost them 20 million to sign both of them?

Horton hasn't played a game since 13/14. They don't need to make up an injury for him.

They haven't needed to put him on LTIR since he's been on the leafs. There will be no issue when they need to. If you can tell me why they wouldn't be able to to do that, I'm all ears.

You get paid the better you are dude, I am fine with Matthews getting more money if it means he's a better player for it.

If you want a top 3 player in the league it will cost top 3 money.

And here is another "simple math" lesson for you

UFA deals cost more

a 6 year deal bites into only one UFA year

and 8 year deal costs three UFA years

which one will have a higher AVV?

If Matthews signed a 6 year deal it would be much lower...closer to the Kane and Toews deals but probably a tad higher because he is having more individual success in his ELC.

Oh and if you didn't already know, Mcdavid and Echiel signed 8 year deals. Not 6

All i said was blackhawks were unable to win a single playoff series once they sign big two to long term deals. Which shows how hard it is to win with couple players eating up huge part of the cap. Especially when you have no defense and have no money to sign anyone.

I am not an idiot i know how contracts work. The thing is he will never sign a 6 year deal. NEVER. It will be 8 years around 12-13 mil. Unless he gets injured again. Which i hope he doesnt because sabres need him to sign big deal to hurt leafs and he is fun to watch.

I think he would. Takes him right to ufa years. Leafs on the other hand probably wouldn’t want that.
