I also think Tom Wilson did that on purpose. Totally.

Maybe, as i said previous. Only seen the 1 angle in slo mo.

I used to get pasted like that every other shift.

There are markets where the taxes are better too, can't discount that, but ask Darcy Tucker and Wendel Clark how they like being career Leafs: those guys make a bunch as Alumnis for meet and greets, tons of comps, trips, flights, etc.

Willie is also on a team with a fantastic group of youth. These kids could make a run for years. As it has been said, that is very rare in the NHL to get the opportunity to take a run at the cup for years. Is that worth anything to him.

Yup, it was a dirty hit then, as well. Lots of open ice, Wilson's head was looking forward,. Unless he has tunnel vision, he saw the player.

Players make 50% of the revenue pot. What the players/agents will look at is what percentage of the cap should a player make. Comparables are ok - but you have to consider both really good contracts and the bad ones as well. I agree with your post, but Matthews is the most important one to get done. If he is not signed at July 1, I am confident that several teams would be willing to offer $16m x 7 and give up the 4 firsts gladly to get him. This would totally (frank) the Leafs as they would likely match and be forced to start throwing assets overboard. So if he wants the same as McDavid - give it to him all day. Hopefully Marleau does have that chat and it works - I have my fingers crossed.
- winsix

I'm just hoping Marner and Matthews see how bad of a look this is for Nylander and just get in and try and hammer out a deal. But if Matthews and Marner both decide to sit leafs and (frank)ed. Will have to pay them.

The ability to make money from sponsors is far greater in Toronto than it is in Arizona, , for example. So, I really don't understand the fight over a little money. TBH, 6 million is a lot of money to play the game you love. I think how much money I was paid,,, nothing, free gear, wow..
- bixll

It is alot of money, and TO could easily offer "non-cap" benefits to players that most other teams could not. The question would be if it would pass the NHL "smell test" if there is one.

Who wants to sit out a season, rather than make close to $7 million bucks and play for a Cup contending team.... I’ll sign the contract if he doesn’t. #NylanderWatch

It is clearly not worth anything to him.

Trouba received a lot of criticism for less cause than this. Whenever Trouba trade roomers come up people mention that they think he has an attitude problem.

Unfortunately, this situation, is not likely to happen with either Marner or Matthews. I would think both would get offer sheets if it got to that point. Both are better players than JT IMO - and are keepers.

Too late to trade him.

New team would have 7 hours to sign him.

- Atomic Wedgie

It could be done. The structure could already be in place.

That's the one thing that could (frank) us in the Marner contract. He's been better than JT and it he finishes the season with more pts which he probably will why wouldn't he ask for more.

I think it is worth something to him. He can't get a NTC until age 27. The hold out has hurt him, but I would think he wants a handshake agreement that if he signs long term he is either not traded or traded to certain teams. It has to be a gentlemen's agreement, the league can't enforce it. From the Leaf's perspective, the asking price would start with a top ten lottery pick - and that would be hard if the trading partners are limited by some agreement. Just speculating

I'm not saying he deserves it coming out of entry level and with his position but I'm sure his agent will push the fact that he's more valuable to the leafs than Tavares. It's always Marner driving the play on that line.

I wonder how much Marner has talked to JT about his team friendly contract he signed after his ELC with the Islanders. JT probably has no regrets.

Tavares will have made 119 million by the end of this contract. I doubt he has any regrets.

He has been a dominant possesion guy this year. I absolutely love having JT on this team. JT will probably have his best season ever probably because he has never played with a winger with as much skill and drive as Marner. Marner has won championships at every level except the NHL. I will be very happy when the Leafs sign him.

Oh so he knew he was getting 119 million when he signed that deal with the Islanders. I am not really close with him so I didn't know that.

I bet Arizona already has an offer sheet in place for that. And yes it is crazy - look at cap friendly, they could easily afford to do it, and it might fill their building. It would be good business for them.

You asked if they talked about if he regrets taking a team friendly deal. He ended up signing with his favorite childhood team who are a cup contender and will have made over 119 million. So to answer your question he probably doesn't regret taking that contract. You suck at trolling.

That's a good indication that the deal has been signed, but I don't think they announce that until after the contract is signed.
