Forgive me, but yeah, at times the Leafs look positively stupid this year.

I was literally laughing during our first two powerplays last night.

On the first one, they looked terrible for about a minute. Then it was a tic-tac-toe play that no team could possibly defend against.

And then the second one. Right off the bat, Tavares gets a point-blank chance. Goalie makes a fantastic save. Then Matthews gets the puck outside of the faceoff dot - with a defenceman between him and the goalie. What does he do? Rips it over the goalie. What the frank? It's a low-percentage shot - it's not even a shot worth taking, unless you are hoping to jam in the rebound. How the frank do you design a penalty kill where you don't let a guy have the puck beyond the faceoff dot? And it was less than 20 seconds into the PP.

Among many other qualities, Matthews' ability to score from stupid places is deeply troubling when matching up against the Leafs. And then there's Marner's ability to make passes that are stupid to even think of trying. Meanwhile, the Snake Tavares is slithering around, coiled, ready to strike. It's sick and disturbing.

marner, rielly, and andersen are all better i would agree but they only really separated from the pack due to their growth this season. nylander may have improved just as much but he's not playing so we don't know yet
