I thought Matthews was actually not that comfortable on that line.
Seemed like he let Kapanen en Johnsson break out, and him making sure no counter attack happened..
Several times when Kapanen en Johnsson were breaking out rapidly, and Matthews was quite a bit behind (on purpose) thinking defense first.
Matthews needs another LW to play with him and Kapanen (assuming Nylander is not there)

But it's equally dumb for the team to not jump up that amount either. It barely amounts to anything for MLSE, and is only 0.4% of the cap space.

What, you think Karlsson and Panarin are phoning him, telling him not to sign for less than $9 million? Why would they do that?

And no, the NHLPA doesn't give two poops either. Whether Nylander signs for $7 million or $9 million has no effect on overall player salaries - it doesn't affect the cap. Less money for Nylander just means more money for other NHLPA members.
