Wow, shocked to see Pryor go, he's been here a long time and done a fine job overseeing the scouts.I guess they figure a new GM is going to want his own right hand man.
edit: Murphy was never Hakstol's pick, wonder if he's been wanting to make a change for a while now and perhaps Hextall wouldn't allow it. - BiggE
Could moving on from Pryor be a hint maybe it's Zito coming here? Guy who handles a lot of what Pryor did for the Flyers with the Bluejackets?

A purge of the Hexstall loyalists - Marc D
You're not wrong about that, but Pryor was with the org for 20 years. He may have backed Hexy, but I don't think he's "Hexy's guy" if that makes sense?
Maybe they give him something else in the org?
I'm really surprised about Pryor, I guess is what I'm saying. |

Hunter was supposed to be the draft genius for the Leafs.
If you look at his actual record, it's pretty crap.
He drafted Marner 4th. The kid was ranked 6th. I don't think Hunter gets a lot of credit for this. After that, the rest of the 2015 draft was a bit of a poopshow. We traded down - letting you take Konecny. We took Dermott in the second round, which isn't bad, but could have had Aho or Carlo. After Dermott, there's nothing that will play in the NHL.
2016 was even worse. You don't get credit for selecting Matthews. With our second pick, we took an overage Yegor Korshkov - FFS, we probably could have taken him in the 7th or even just invited him to training camp. Highly doubtful anyone from the Leafs' 2016 draft not named Matthews makes the NHL.
2017 - too soon to tell, but there aren't a lot of guys that look to be superstars.
So be careful what you wish for. - Atomic Wedgie

How did you generate the 1.21 gigawattts required for time travel? - Atomic Wedgie
I'm sorry, but the only power source capable of generating 1.21 gigawatts of electricity is a bolt of lightning. |

Was Hakstol not allowed to pick his own assistant coaches? what the (frank) - feelingkettle
Yup, he inherited Lappy and Mullen and Hextall hired Murphy. Also it was Hextall who replaced Mullen with Knoblauch.

I could be very wrong, but I thought Hexy leaned on Pryor a lot and I thought he moved up the ranks when Hextall took the job. |

Man. This reminds me of the 90s/early 2000s Flyers, where there was always poop going down
All we need now is a player revolt and J.R. Superstar to come back and shoot pucks at Michal Neuvirth's head, and we'd be good to go |

He probably did, but he had a career with the Flyers before Hextall took the GM gig:

I think it's weird too.
It's, at least, highly unusual.
You see it in football sometimes, but it almost never works. |

Gotta get some work done, will check back later this afternoon
By that time, I expect we'll have a new GM, a new coach and we will have traded for McDavid.
See ya later. |

Maybe he disagreed with the Hexy firing and personally couldn’t get behind the new direction that’s being discussed behind closed doors. Idk. |

Yes he did. Maybe in those scouting days, he forged a relationship with Pryor?
I don't know what to make of the firing other than what others have said (i.e.--he was a Hextall loyalist).

Pryor started as a scout same time as Hexy then took over his role when Hextall left. |
