I have a feeling it's going to be Ron Francis for some reason and I'm fine with it.

So the flyers don’t play until Saturday, and One would believe that they would want a general manager to oversee the team by Saturday night. My reasoning behind this is, have the GM watch at least one game. Have the GM evaluate the past couple weeks with film. After Saturday, we don’t play a game until Thursday.

So it looks like the top candidates for the next GM are guys who are more bean counters than hockey guys, if you believe Pierre Lebrun? The most glaring this is that all of them have presided of a lot of mediocre teams. Yay?

So the Flyers have widely been admired as being at the top of the league in admiring and drafting the best talent for the last five years. So apparently it was a problem they weren't listening to scouts enough? Because their drafts were bad? So we need to get rid of ALL of the guys who were responsible for those great drafts!!!! I guess we plan to trade all of our prospects and picks, so who needs guys who know talent?

The only good news today was jettisoning Gord Murphy. Literally every team he has coached defense for has been HORRIBLE, including the Flyers. I would usually say a team needs SOMEBODY calling the D shots on the bench, but the Flyers will likely be improved with NO ONE instead of him.

I'm skeptical that just removing an assistant coach is going to instantly make both player better.

Murphy is a bad coach. I would normally agree with you, but in this case, it might.

Murphy was the brain child of the defensive pairings that make no sense. Expect the players to find some chemistry now.

I don't think that this will fix Ghost: he just needs a partner who will cover his mistakes.
I don't think that this will fix Provy: I really think he is not 100%.

May I also remind you that Minny’s style of play was one of the most boring to watch under his tenure.

I’m ready to rage. The pitchfork is ready.

If Hak is still employed by the time the boys come to play here in December I am buying tickets.

You get ready for something special.

Yep, not interested. I want to win a cup, not a couple rounds in the playoffs, which is what seems to be the goal here. It seems that Holmgren and Co. are trying to save the season which is a mistake. I don't think we're good enough to win a cup and don't think that the next couple years we will either. It's about being realistic is all.

The saving grace is that Rutherford was thought to be a joke before Pittsburgh too.

This is just personal opinion but I’d be down for that Buffalo guy or Hunter. Yzerman the wet dream that’s unlikely to happen.

- flyer_nutter

Rutherford hasn’t exactly been all roses either. A lot of that was in place. Pulled off a heist with the kessel deal, but that was a tight market to begin with. He’s had some nice moves, but just as many brutal misses. He has a lot of hits because he’s very active, but his batting average isn’t above the norm.

I would take Fletcher if that meant Q, but I am not a fan of Hunter, (frank) him and all his brothers.
- Glak18

I don’t know if the positives of Q outweigh the negatives of fletcher in my mind. Not to get the circle jerk of “what exactly the coach does” going again, but I just think the GM obviously is in such a greater position of influence

I think when you look at this upcoming Pittsburgh game Saturday you can label it as a game that can potentially turn the tides for the Flyers this season. Pittsburgh is a team that has had their number for years now and obviously the playoff series last season is probably still in the minds of the players as they were embarrassed pretty badly in a lot of the games. I think if they can come out and get a big win it could really be the start of them overcoming some of those confidence issues we've seen this season so far. Pittsburgh has arguably been playing as bad as we have so far this season so this is a winnable game and it's one that could do wonders for this team moving forward. Just my 2 cents.

I'm rooting for Ron Francis to get the GM job, but I'll take anybody on the short list. My big concern is which coaches will be brought in to replace Hakstol and Lappy? I am happy to hear the Flyers are looking outside of the organization for a GM and I hope they do the same with a new head coach, too? No more ex-Flyers as coaches.

Cross your fingers for Zito. A poster on csnphilly stated he’s hearing it’s Zito’s job if he wants it and that stolarz will be given every opportunity to show what he can do.

Back to Zito. There could be major dots here to connect considering holmgrens involvement with US hockey. Zito is a big name for US hockey being the GM for the 2018 IIHF world championships. Also served as a player agent for Kimmo Timonen. These two are well acquainted.

It's going to be Fletcher. They can say they went outside of the organization but really not.
