I’m hoping and praying Hakstol hasn’t been “relieved of his duties” yet simply because they need a warm body behind the bench for a short time period.

Hakstol has handled the situation well but does he have a choice? If anything doing so will help him land his next gig. Probably not a head coaching spot, but I would think an assistant somewhere is likely. It’s in his best interest to handle this professionally if he knows he’ll soon be terminated.

The flyers have not been an exciting team whatsoever since the Hex/Hak regime took over. Same old recycled quotes after blowing a late lead or losing a handful of games in a row. I thought the Hextall firing might ignite a bit more effort but what do you know, another 40 minute effort and a blown lead.

I’m moving closer and closer into joining the tank for Hughes supporters club. Sad we’re not even at Christmas yet and this season looks lost.

Now that Pryor is gone, to me Mark Hunter becomes a great candidate for GM...that was his role in TO (draft and scouting) and is widely regarded as high end talent evaluation guy. He simply lost the battle in TO to Kyle Dubas. Flyers could do worse....although I guess all reports are they want some one with more experience.

Nurse Nutter is quite opposite from HB nutter.

So Hak is Holmgren's right hand man, I thought he was Hextall's...
- dragonoffrost

Someone needs to coach the team in the interim. Hak is gone when the GM gets here. Maybe he’ll finish out the season but what is holmgren going to say? He needs to show him support if he thinks there’s a strong chance he needs him to finish out the year

One thing I'll be curious about is will there be any moves with guys from Lehigh to the Flyers?

Will Hakstol ask to have someone like Aube-Kubel or Myers up and waive someone like Folin or Lehtara.

The panic in here is almost as laughable as those that think there is no middle ground between build patiently via the draft and hoard all assets and win now at all costs the future be damned.

Thank God none of you are GMs

I just despise that’s its Homer making the call.

The guy made some good moves but (frank)ed the franchise when he didn’t have a poopload of cap space and had to worry about the implications. The man that undervalued the draft and held to making the first round of the playoffs when it was more then clear a rebuild was needed.

For all of Hextall’s faults. Holmgren was kind of a piece of poop too. Just my take.

At the end of it though, let’s see what happens. We may be pleasantly surprised. Doubt it, but maybe.

- flyer_nutter

Yeah. Like you mention the fact he was promoted is pretty absurd. I don't like that he's getting to make the call on the new GM. I think POS might be a bit strong, but Holmgren made a ton of shortsighted transactions that set the franchise back.

Lol can you imagine if they low key encourage the next GM to give Hak a try?

That they feel he’s a competent coach.

Who would you rather have hiring the next GM? Clarke? Dave Scott? Brian Roberts?

I kind of felt the same way with that. Either Hunter or Zito since both seem to have strong backgrounds in that.

Rarely.

That was a coaching move. Clarke should have gotten more. That certainly wasn't trading youth for a veteran presence.

- mayorofangrytown

well the coach that forced that move is in edmonton

I love the "set the franchise back" comments.

We just gloss over the fact he also took over a mess from Clarke and turned that team around.

He also had goalie issues and somehow was able to get to the cup final with Michael (frank)ing Leighton and basically 4 defensemen.

Hextall was fired because the current team wasn't producing any results.

I think your narrative of the plan taking too long is off. The plan is fine as long as your not neglecting your current team.

Yes Dave Scott said they weren't waiting until 2-3 years down the road. I understand that. If this team was 3rd in the metro, I doubt anything comes of this.

- J35Bacher

i think they also see other teams making trades, playing their kids and getting better, they see the Rangers being better out the gate of their rebuild. Islanders youth doing well wo JT, the Sens are not doing well but they are scoring and the youth has taken off. Montreal started well and even the Wings are 6-3-1 in their last 10. Now you have other teams like LA and Blues come to mind who have not done as expected. They could have looked at a few teams and wondered why is Hextalls plan taking so long? Why wont he move assets that we have no idea whether they will make it or not.

I don't get the sense like some it's Fletcher. I think they still want something fresh so i could see Zito.

Let me say this.

You (frank)ers are in for a hell of a time whenever Hak is finally let go.

Prepare your bodies. It’s going to be magnificent.
