Holmgren is also the guy partly responsible for the current situation. The team Holmgren built was not sustainable and he himself had to break it up.
- MJL

So you're giving Holmgren credit for the current cap space, expiring contracts and deep prospect pool.

Seems a departure but I guess I have to agree.

I wasn't say to fire them all at once I was saying why fire any one right now. Why not let the new GM do it once he's put his team together.

Fair question. Don't know the answer. Appears to be chaos at the moment.

Yup. You can’t really blame any players at preset time.

Who the hell could go out and play well in these conditions?

The one big fear for me is this new GM. That’s the X factor.

You’ve got an organization that by all accounts wants quick moves to try and speed things up. You’ve got a guy coming in who more than likely doesn’t have a whole lot of knowledge regarding the prospects on board.

Well it's only been one game since Hextall's firing. 3-1 lead 8 minutes left against a terrible team at home. You have to close out that game regardless of what is going on.

To me I feel the moving on from Pryor fits with the fresh eyes and approach Holmgren spoke of yesterday.

Murphy was hired by Hextall. The defense has gotten worse. I am not going to complain about this move.

Also I am not nervous at all about the direction because I don't think we are going back to this moving everything and anything for now. i think Holmgren wants someone who will have a balance. Keep building and drafting but no neglecting the on ice product of now.

Also i think it was BiggE who pointed it out and I agree. Holmgren looks like a guy that doesn't want to be involved in the day to day of the team anymore. He wants to know what's going on but the new GM is in charge. i think that is what ultimately got hextall fired. You can't just hijack the team and then when things keep getting worse tell everyone its ok, patience.

We will be fine and maybe even better for it.

From what we’ve heard, I think that’s the last thing they do.

You might see a core piece moved, but I don’t think they are down with any kind of slow rebuild. Holmgren wants this to be a retool, partly how he did it when he took over.

It mirrors that a bit with the available cap space and pieces available to make trades.

At this point, and this is just me - I’m down for a tank. What the hell do you have to lose.

- flyer_nutter

For me, I'd rather not restart the rebuild. They already have a ton of solid, promising players that are almost here on top of Giroux looking better than ever. I honestly believe they're only a few pieces away from being a contender.

well just throwing this out there but they've gone how many years with no changes? perhaps they really have gotten comfortable.
- nastyflyergirl

I'll be honest: For the majority of this season, they have played collectively like a stale group

My take on this is they have fired Pryor for being loyal and on board with what Hextall was doing.

There is no rationale for letting some guys go and not others.

All I wanted is (frank)ing Hakstol’s head. Instead I’m being given various organs from others in the organization.

Let’s make a meat pie? Just fire the moron and Lappy with him already.

- flyer_nutter

I'm sorry that you still believe the flyers will do the specific things you want them to

So Chuck Fletcher the front-runner. Chris Pryor got fired. And they're fired Murphy at Hak's request?

Hard to get behind all this.

You could see how fragile they were from basically puck drop of this season.

They are going to buckle every time. This collapse didn’t magically start this year. This is a team that has been together for a while.

They let the cancer get to stage 4 before making a change.

Yup.

Can say what you will about loyalty but if I am looking at making changes and have a list of names. The guy in charge of the drafting for the last while is not the first on that list.

Fletcher. My god. That’s Dave Hakstol in GM form.

It’s even more odd that Homer said no further changes in the near time. You’d think Lappy would be canned.

Dooms day scenario.

Organization believes Hakstol and Lappy aren’t really the issue. A lack of moves to bring in talent left those guys exposed.

A new GM comes in with a mandate to make some immediate trades to bring quicker results.

The on ice play does improve, and you see those two stay on.

This is somewhat possible in my eyes.

World ends.

Fletcher was a solid GM always had competitive teams in Minny. I feel like he would be a fine choice due to his past experiences and the fact that he's probably learned from previous mistakes he's made as a GM. I wouldn't be against him coming in. If I had a choice I'd want Hunter to be the guy though.

Once they made decision to fill the GM spot outside the organization, Pryor was done. I m sure the GM candidates will present who they want their staff to be as opposed to the organization defining it for them. The only way Pryor had a chance to stick was being promoted.
