Are they willing to lose that many firsts with that goaltending? - AdamFrench
Blues just need to drop Allen and find almost anyone else. The guy is a head case. Wish we would have traded him and kept Bishop back in the day. Or kept Elliot or Hutton. Did I not say anyone else
Yes I would lose 1st rounders for Tkachuk. Or maybe just trade Tarasenko for him now |

You couldn’t afford Tkachuk anyways. And trading away Tarasenko would be throwing in the towel on your current team for a full rebuild at your teams average age. Your in win now age range.
You need to start with a goaltender, not offer sheeting Tkachuk.. |

The salary cap formula needs to be adjusted. Count on it being a key issue in the CBA negotiations. The owners will want to reduce the 20% max per player and the PA could agree if the cap is increased more quickly.
A win-win for everyone except teams like Arizona, Carolina, Florida. - itwasin
What? McDavid "only" makes 16.67% as of this year. I don't think anyone gets to 20%, you can't build a team with that. the 20% number is irrelevant. The cap is tied to growth in HRR. HRR goes up the cap goes up. The players have the escalator, but it's based more on HRR than that. I would think that's the least of anyone's worries. |

Blues will have room at the end of the season when Bouwmeester's contract expires. Not saying they will do the bold move by offer sheeting someone but some culture change has to happen. This is the weakest blues team I've ever seen in my 30 years watching. It's terrible |

Eh... you've got 12 current NHLers under contract for next season and probably $23~ million in space.
Not sure there's a lot of wiggle room for the Blues.
Also holy poop Pietrangelo is gonna be 29 in January??? |

And Edmundson is due for a raise. Petro is playing like 5hit. So are the other supposed defensemen. That is a reason why the goalies suck |

Could be worse.
The Oilers have 10 guys to sign, including two goaltenders, and will only have about 17 million to work with.
Also they're the Oilers. |

My guess is the owners will argue for shorter contracts and maybe a forced bridge type of deal where a player coming an ELC can only be signed for say 3 - 5 years.
maybe a franchise tag system where one player, like McDavid can sign a big ticket and that's it. |

How can the Blues offer sheet when they won't have the 1st round picks to give up |

Offer sheets can only be 7 years to the owning teams 8
That means a 15 mil offer sheet to Mathews could get matched by a 13x8 contract....and we can make it so front loaded with bonuses etc that it would be uber appealing to stay
Marner would be 11 million to a 13x7 offer sheet - Smileypants17
Toronto might want to consider getting a # of first round picks for Mathews ... they can then afford to pick up some quality defensemen ... How many hits can Mathews take before getting injured again
