I'm all aboard the Mark Hunter train. Get it done Homer (God that feels weird saying again)
I'll be livid if it's Lombardi or Fletcher. Fletcher couldn't do Jack poop in Minny. And look at how lombardi left the Kings... |

Next steps, following the announcement of a new GM should be
1. Bring in a new head coach and at least one new assistant
2. Trade Simmonds for a prospect and a pick
3. Trade Jake for a 3C and a pick
4. Trade a pick and/or a prospect for a legit NHL goalie
And, at the draft, swing a deal for a quality veteran top 4 Dman. - BiggE
Can see each of these happening, absolutely

If only it was that easy, we'd all be GM's.

He's got more NHL front office experience than anyone in the organization. Who else would you rather be in charge of it? Comcast? - hereticpride
youre kidding yourself if you think this is a unilateral maneuver on Homer's part. He's the messenger. COMCAST has taken control of the team |

Would rather trade Jake for a 2C and let Patrick continue to develop at 3C. He's still only 20. It's asking a lot of him to be the 2C right now imo.
Onboard with everything else though. |

I don't think it's unilateral but I think Holmgren initiated and drove this move.

Um, Jake had 85 points last year, only 12 players put up more. Plenty of suitors I’m sure. I don’t get the Voracek hate. |

How does it work as far as looking at assistant GMs around the league. Do teams have to let them out of their contracts for a promotion mid season or are they obligated to stay? Bill Zito seems like an interesting candidate as he is well connected to USA hockey |

I don’t hate Jake, but he takes too many games and shifts off for my liking. If you can flip him for a legit 2C, I’d make the deal. This team’s core group needs to be shaken up. |

I think there was most likely pressure from above as far as the business side of things but I don't believe that the Comcast people told him to fire Hextall.

Me: Man I really hope the next GM is level handed and finds a nice place between Hexy's patience and my desire to see winning hockey.
All my non-Flyer Friends: HAR HAR GRITTY IS THE NEW GM!

I don't think the first 3 are too unreasonable. I mean #1 is a given because they have to. 2 and 3 aren't too unfathomable to me. |

That hate is he isn't a 200 foot player and as fancy stats show us that is a bad thing. |

I can see the “shake up the core” thing and then yeah, it’s Jake. But which 2C? I think it’s Patty. He has some inconsistencies to work through but the tools are there. The caliber player you need to get for Jake will bury Patrick. If I’m looking at a blockbuster, I want a true sniper. When was the last time we had one of those? |

Yeah, but not every player is and players who produce at his level are more of a rarity. And more valuable in my opinion. |

I don't think it's that difficult to identify the weakness of the team and propose generalities of what the team should do. It's a whole other thing to actually do it. For example, acquiring a legitimate top 4 defenseman is not easy and is costly.
