no playoff series win since 2012
alternating seasons making the playoffs
goalie carousel
horrendous multiyear pk
basically a .500 team with long win and losing streaks at the same bottom of the metro spot at thanksgiving every season
the tunnel is definitely nowhere near in sight. hopefully that changed today. - hammarby31
The only way something has changed today on the ice is if the firing of the GM puts a boot in the ass of the players and they respond. If they do, I see that as a temporary boost.

Nah -- they'll be fine. They've been killing it at ES
Need a dependable goalie to pair with Elliott, one or two legit defensive forwards to help the PK
They can turn this around if they commit to it -- the talent is there, the assets are there, the cap space is there - AllInForFlyers
Are you comfortable with Paul Holmgren leading this new GM search? |

I thought Hartnell trade was good. In the end CBJ had to buy him out and we were scott free. To me that was successful. |

He's got more NHL front office experience than anyone in the organization. Who else would you rather be in charge of it? Comcast? |

The obvious answer you refuse to hear is that the coach needed to have the team ready for BOTH games, not just the first one.
You don't end up with league's 3rd worst first period goal difference over a 270 game sample by accident. - Feanor
Your missing the other obvious answer which is that the coach did have the players prepared to play and the players screwed the pooch in the Leafs game. Can't remove the role of the players from the equation. Why would a coach prepare the team differently when they just won and dominated a game? The answer that you refuse to hear is that not being prepared to play is on the players and not the coach.

He brought Hextall in, right?
At some point, people have to acknowledge that Homer is not some crazed idiot looking to set fire to all of our childhood hopes and dreams |

Hak will be gone sooner rather than later and I expect some trades to go down by the deadline. They wouldn't fire Hextall to keep things in place... |

True but we do know what kind of GM Holmgren was. We also know he stepped aside for a reason. We also know that Hextall didn't at any time hide his intentions and what he was going to do. Holmgren was on board with that. Emphasis on was.

No, they haven't been killing it as ES. They had a stretch of games where they played well offensively. They've had some games where they played well defensively. For the most part, they've been a train wreck defensively and with puck management. As well as intensity level.
What the Flyers did today was uncommit, not commit.

I do believe the rumblings that corporate started asking questions -- not saying that Homer is pure as the driven snow on this one, because I don't know, but it feels like it wasn't just Homer to me

I don’t think Dale is a fit....but Mark Hunter is a very smart guy, and would be a great choice as the next GM. - landros 2
I brought this up on the last blog and only one guy responded so seems like a not popular idea around here, but I think it would be a great signing |

Well the business aspect was brought up before. No need to get complicated with that. Winning is good business and losing is bad business.

Then they definitely did the right thing in firing somebody, and they won't be wrong in trading people and firing more people

Next steps, following the announcement of a new GM should be
1. Bring in a new head coach and at least one new assistant
2. Trade Simmonds for a prospect and a pick
3. Trade Jake for a 3C and a pick
4. Trade a pick and/or a prospect for a legit NHL goalie
And, at the draft, swing a deal for a quality veteran top 4 Dman. |
