Lay off the booze there big guy.
- ajw12

not to mention Bobrovsky - for a goalie starved franchise?! will be interesting to see the reaction when Hart becomes the next Price in the NHL. Might not look like such a bad GM then...right? Although - the Rubtsov pick was faulty.

There is a difference between a competent rebuild and an incompetent rebuild.

The oilers are actually an example of why tanking works. They have been the worst run franchise in the NHL and, despite all of it, have the best player in the world locked up for 8 more years

- PhillySportsGuy

Yeah, but they didn't actually stop being incompetent. I understand your point: The Flyers, as they are usually fated to do, don't get Jack Eichel or Patrik Laine with a No. 2 overall. We get JVRs and Patricks -- nice players but not franchise players

At the same time, Hextall did draft Provorov and TK. They have developed. I think it's fair that the Flyers will be better off because the one thing they won't do is remain incompetent

Well if the Flyers land Hughes then that solves that problem. He will probably never be as good as McDavid, but I believe he will be around the guys people talk about after him.

Ohhh that skating

- Glak18

That's the only thing that could make me feel better today.

Listening to NHL radio on XM...hosts are saying the Flyers have a trade in place that will be announced soon. Word is it involves “3 to 4 pieces.”

We’ll see...

- BroadSTmayhem

Really?😬

Bye Simmonds or Jake (I hope not Jake)

Did Homer swoop in the Nylander sweepstakes today?

Ha! I don't know the sourcing, if it's real or fake, but I think we all know something's coming. Big, small, whatever, but something's coming eventually. It just is

Hart is a ways away from being an NHL goalie let alone the next Carey Price, let's pump the brakes.

As for Rubtsov, I was pleasantly surprised by his start this year in the AHL and it sucks that he is done for the remainder of the season but I could see him developing into a Scott Laughton type player in the next few years so I wouldn't write him off just yet.

Hi Bill - great analysis as always!

Heres what I would like to see now - and I have been a loyal Hextall supporter!:

Ghost Simmons Picks - for - Nylander Gardiner;

sign Hayes, Stralman and Bob in FA;

Bring up Hart and Frost;

Quenneville;
and let Brierre coach the PK and PP.

Bill said, "But, in Philly, moving laterally at the NHL level in the name of moving forward for the future proved to be untenable four-plus years into the process without the end of the tunnel being reached." I think he's understating things. Not only was the tunnel not reached it wasn't even in sight.

Definitely have mixed feelings about Hexy being let go. He did a great job stockpiling assets, trading aging players with high cap hits and making some really solid draft picks. However, there were several head scratching maneuvers which I think ultimately led to his firing; goaltending being the biggest blunder. I won't sugar coat it...Hexy screwed the pooch with getting this team a decent goalie that doesn't get injured wiping their a$$ with baby wipes. Carter Hart and Felix Sandstrom may be the goalies of the future, but there are absolutely no guarantees they will be the franchise goalie this organization has been missing for decades.

Other positions of need were largely ignored/not upgraded and not firing Lappy after several consecutive years of an abysmal PK was also another problem not rectified. Rumor has it his inability to relieve Hakstol of his duties was the final nail in the coffin. We'll have to wait and see what happens now! I do wish Hexy all the best!

Follow the Flyers now for 7 years.
Never seen a decision as stupid as this
Not firing the coach before they are mathematically out of play-off is absolutely correct

Here is an out of the box idea that could work. Throw a ton of money at the Hunter brothers to come in as GM(Mark) & Coach(Dale).

no playoff series win since 2012
alternating seasons making the playoffs
goalie carousel
horrendous multiyear pk
basically a .500 team with long win and losing streaks at the same bottom of the metro spot at thanksgiving every season

the tunnel is definitely nowhere near in sight. hopefully that changed today.

I would burn everything that is Flyers that I own and start watching the Devils if Dale ever steps foot in Philadelphia.
