When you rebuild from the middle, it’s hard to find those truly impactful players; guys that are the best players on cup winning teams. Hexy needed to be more aggressive in acquiring those types of players whether it was trading up in the draft, offer sheeting a young player or trading for an established star.
The things like goaltending and leaving the PK unaddressed for years are things you can get away with if you’ve done enough to acquire elite level young talent. |

Let's see what he's doing at the end of the season before we start judging his arrival date. - mayorofangrytown
He'll be 21 years old, with one professional season under his Garanimals belt, when training camp opens next year. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he won't be NHL ready, especially not in Philadelphia. |

Are we really not going to talk about the giant elephant in the room?
MJL stole my joke...then preceded to ask others about what the difference was from the Ranger game and Toronto game. - Glak18
I still would like an answer to that question. I really would.

What realistic thing could he have done to be more aggressive in those areas you listed?
Its easy for us all to say "they should have done x, y or z" but those things typically require a second party to also go alone with it.
Note I dont disagree with you just trying to figure out how we got so locked into what we currently are.

He's fired by the clown that had this organization in a HUGE hole. Idiotic. He fixes our cap situation. Filled up the prospect pool. The only way I'm good with this is if he wouldn't fire Hak. That's the only way I'm onboard.
SOMETHING had to be done after that debale on HNIC ending with a Flyers jersey left on the ice. |

People don't want to hear it, but sometimes you just gotta overpay in the trade market
Back-to-back years, they drafted twice in the first round, with Patrick-Frost and Farabee-O'Brien
Maybe, just maybe, you should've burned one of those picks in a move for a roster player

Definitely have mixed feelings about Hexy being let go. He did a great job stockpiling assets, trading aging players with high cap hits and making some really solid draft picks. However, there were several head scratching maneuvers which I think ultimately led to his firing; goaltending being the biggest blunder. I won't sugar coat it...Hexy screwed the pooch with getting this team a decent goalie that doesn't get injured wiping their a$$ with baby wipes. Carter Hart and Felix Sandstrom may be the goalies of the future, but there are absolutely no guarantees they will be the franchise goalie this organization has been missing for decades.
Other positions of need were largely ignored/not upgraded and not firing Lappy after several consecutive years of an abysmal PK was also another problem not rectified. Rumor has it his inability to relieve Hakstol of his duties was the final nail in the coffin. We'll have to wait and see what happens now! I do wish Hexy all the best! |

Would of been the ultimate poetic justice if it was an actual Hextall jersey. |

And not 2020 either? That's two years away. I'll wait and see.
Regardless, the first thing whomever their next GM is should be finding a solution to this goalie mess if it's at all possible to get done this season. What are Soderstrom and Roussell doing? |

People need to chill. Firing Hextall doesn't mean we're back to full blown Homer. Ideally they'll find a GM who can chart a middle course and keep an eye on the system while keeping the NHL product a good one.

There's way too much running to extremes today. Lombardi's just like Homer!!! They're gonna trade all the prospects...(frank)'s sake they didn't even hire a new guy yet. |

If their only real problem was goaltending, they could just go out and make a trade for a competent goalie. I’m not saying it was a bad decision, I’m saying it’s something he could have survived. |

You think Hextall still has a job today if they won the 3rd lotto pick instead and drafted Heiskanen or Pettersson? |
