I want to keep G. I think it may be time to move on from Jake and Simmonds however. But that's where I draw the line. You have to hold onto Coots and Ghost for now. JVR is a toss up.

Gonna trade JVR within a year of signing a long-term deal for the 2nd time!

they thought he could be relied upon at all heading into this season.

Whether the upper management bailed is just speculation.
- Sinisalo4vr

There is a ton of speculation in here and on twitter right now and this one is as plausible as all the rest.

I only said WTF to Neuvy because of his injury history, which is even worse now. It was in my opinon, more of a gamble to sign Neuvy than wonder if Mason would be mentally ok. Obviously neither turned out ok, but it seemed to me like Mason was the more stable choice back then. I just don't think Hextall handled that situation well either way.
- feelingkettle

The goalie situation for Hexy's entire tenure has been weird/bad. Even when Mason was playing well, there was still that awkward feeling between him and the organization.

I mean that's basically what's keeping me from saying sell on him if they were to blow it up.

That said, while I think we'll see moves I very much doubt they're going to blow it up and get young.

I think the fact that Mason has played 13 NHL games since leaving the Flyers and is out of the league at 30 shows that the right decision was made with him. Hextall was in a jam, not all of it was his doing. Neuvirth had played 32 and 28 games as a Flyer. Combined with the Elliott signing, it should've been enough.

A good GM should be able to get out of a jam even if he's stuck in one. I'm pretty sure Neuvirth has spent more time on the IR in his tenure here than actually played games. Obviously neither were ideal options. If that was the case ,then he should've solved it some other way. Again, his handling of the goalies here does not inspire confidence in his personnel decisions.

It would reflect really poorly on the organization to do that. They'd basically need a NTC in every contract.

I actually think it's more likely they're gonna double down and try to make it to the playoffs this year

We're gonna know a lot about the GM they hire, I think. If it's some old dude with a track record of moving guys and trying to win, well, there you go. If it's someone whose record is pretty conservative, that tells you something, too

Starting caliber goaltenders aren't just floating around and readily available. I think it's easy to sit from a far and say something should've been fixed. He added Mrazek last season in a trade. That didn't work. He could've re-signed him but we don't know if he was interested in coming back.

I stand corrected. Pierre did report management wanted Carter Hart up sooner than later and Hextall refused because it doesn't follow his philosophy.

I think people forget too just how inconsistent Mason was here at the end. It was time to move on.

To be fair to Hextall I think the expansion draft also played a role in his decision to re-sign Neuvy. They had to have a goalie under contract to expose and it just wasn't going to be Mason with the way things had been going.

I would love to know if that is actually true and which management personnel wanted that. Those are the folks who should've been fired today.

Well, either way, here we are as a result, and how the situation played out is really hurting the team.

I think that's unlikely unless Homer just takes over. GMs normally don't come in and start making a bunch of trades mid-season. They usually want time to evaluate talent and build their management team. If they start trading players, they're going to be relying on Hexy's people to give him evaluations.

I think the more likely scenario is that the younger players get more NHL time.

I'm wondering about the context of that report. They may have just wanted a look at Hart. I don't think they would kept him up if he struggled.

Was thinking this exact same thing today in describing the scenario where every contract in his career was signed as a member of the Flyers, but potentially, playing only a quarter of his career here..

Yes and it's a result of the continuous carousel of trying to trade their way to it and sign UFA's for key positions. That rarely works. They've tried to do that how many times over the years under a variety of GM's. Hextall was trying to change all that.

I don’t think there is any question that the next GM is going to be Lombardi, at least on an interim basis. He has the experience and the resume. He knows how to make trades ,is familiar with all the pieces involved and he is already here. They could do a lot worse in the short run.

I don't think Pierre is plugged in enough with the Flyers to know that.

Besides, if this was actually true, Hart would be up with the team as of today.

I'll take him as an assistant replacing Lappariere.
