So how many years were you willing to wait? - NC Flyers Fan
It's been 40+ years already, what's waiting a couple of more for Hart and some of the forwards to make it? |

If it is true that Bob Clarke was around the Flyers today, I mean, FFS. Hextall had to see some of this coming
Again: I don't think Homer's fingerprints are completely all over this crime scene. I do think he was just the "Man from Corporate" on this one
But at the same time, if Clarke and Homer are chatting and Hextall's been giving Homer blank stares and no-no-no, at some point each of them are gonna think, "WTF? I built Flyers teams that played in Cup finals in four years as GM. I'm not trying to hear this poop from the guy we hired who was Dean Lombardi's AGM when they won Cups. Hell, we have Dean Lombardi himself on the freaking payroll. If somebody is gonna keep telling me no, it's not gonna be you doing it"
If you've sat in corporate meetings, you have either had, heard or been the subject of that conversation

It'll probably be some retread that is worse than Hexy, but also more of a risk taker. - PhillySportsGuy
Yeah, I'm not really interested in Holmgren or Lombardi (or Clarke if that's a real thing) but I don't think they're going with someone with no GM experience. The choice will be very telling. |

I'd rather it be more of a critical thinker like Dubas, but that's an impossible ask for this type of organization. |

Man. They did do that poop, didn't they. Man. That was cold. To this day, that was ice-cold - AllInForFlyers
Eh, business is business. Looking back on his career I don't think Carter has a problem with it. |

If you don't want to get involved in the speculation then don't. Bringing up rumors on why the move was done is indeed getting involved in the speculation and making it fair game for discussion. - MJL
Honestly, don't reply to my posts. This is a big reason why I rarely ever post on this site anymore. BECAUSE OF YOU!!! You nit pick people's posts to fit whatever narrative you're attempting to support and disregard whatever someone states that you disagree with. Plain and simply, you're a d bag!
Simply stating that there is a rumor doesn't mean I want to speculate whether it has any validity and don't effin tell me what I can and cannot discuss, along with the manner in which I do it. |

I think Hexy has his faults but I admire his stubbornness lol. Say what you want but him but he is loyal and has convictions - Just5
Agreed. That probably wins him points in many hockey circles, but I think that loyalty was misplaced.
Sports relationships are ephemeral and that's why you have this notion of retreads. If you're well liked and even a little bit successful, you'll get another gig. Most guys understand that it's a business and it's nothing personal if you fire them (unless you fumble it like the Panthers did with Gerard Gallant). |

I think a few more seasons and we would start seeing real growth. I think the new GM is going to benefit from what Hextall did here. - MJL
And probably get nominated for GM of the year. |

Starting to get really worried based on some of the reports that are coming out. Could be a lot of misinformation and fake news, however.
The more I think about it the more I think they did Hextall dirty. I mean yeah, there were legitimate reasons for today's move. But something just feels off about this whole thing.
Maybe because it is impossible to judge Hextall's tenure here. He has unfinished business. Management and fans knew full well what was going on in terms of time horizon for this team to be fixed. Management capitulated. |

And I could literally see them trading picks and prospects to get back to the cup finals
(and lose).

I think the firing is defensible, but that doesn't mean it was the right move for the team.
I don't like hearing that Clarke and Homer had input into the decision, if those reports are to be believed. |

Some times you need the guy before the guy. Pat gillick had ed wade. Well se what happens with the flyers. But sometimes you have a guy build a foundation and do some house cleaning but just doesnt get you over the last hump which is the new guys job |

Let's just put it this way: I don't think Homer's gonna hire someone who is gonna tell him "no" when he comes asking questions from Dave Scott that probably need to be "yes" -- even if you don't agree with it

I don't think Corporate told Holmgren to fire Hextall. I think that was Holmgren's decision. I think Corporate told Holmgren to move things along and that they weren't happy with the direction of the team. How to fix it was Holmgren's decision. In my opinion.

Yep. I just hope the direction of the organization, which has been more in line with believing in maintaining a viable prospect pool, developing players, valuing analytics stays intact. |

How (frank)ed up is that that Hextall brings Lombardi in and Lombardi might be the interim guy till they get this figured out? Or even better, be a candidate for the job, long term?
So awkward.
That's like watching your buddy get divorced and asking him a week later if it's cool to date his ex-wife. |
