If you're the GM would you give him 6mil x 5 years based on what you saw? Maybe it's like the Panarin situation where they weren't willing to pay his price so they bailed on him.
And for the record, I don't see Schmaltz being a guy who helps win a playoff series so he can go. - 6628
Good trade for both teams strome and Perlin will not be hard to resign plus if it becomes difficult then both players are very well and are living up to their potential. Schmaltz change of teams and not going to big market less pressure like TT but only time will tell. Give the new guys 10 to 15 games before passing judgement. |

Less scoring in the top 6 for more scoring in the bottom 6? Explain this to me.
52 points is top 6 material.
Of course you get cost control. One guy can't play at the NHL level for poop. And the other guy is meh at best. - Elbows15
He scored 52pts one year, and is on pace for 8g and 39pts this year. Explain that being a top 6 forward? A 40pt winger to play with Kane...and how much do you want to pay him?
GPG
Schamltz - .18gpg
Perlini - .22gpg
For a team that needs goal scoring, not much of a difference there
And Strome only has played in 48 games and has won 261 face offs to Schmaltz's 457 faceoffs... while little Nicky was losing over 750
If they can get 40pts a year out of Strome, this deal is a steal

Don't we want Stan to pick up a bunch of players who are going to be HARD to sign? |

FTR, I find farts more pleasant...but then again, I can't smell anything, so it's mostly for the sound, I suppose. Either way prefer them to Droop. |

Just cause he doesn't have a nose doesn't mean he can't smell anything. Our dogs have little smashed in faces with nostrils and I'm pretty sure they have really good sniffers...just sayin. |

Dogs already have heightened senses of smell, they don't need big honkers, any honker, but they seem to be outliers.
To the first point, I will grant you ... but you never know. He could just be a mouth breather. |

For a team that lacks depth, how can you be angry about a 2 for 1 trade? Addressed lack of size with Perlini who is a utility type player that can play on any of the top 3 lines. Strome is a question mark for sure, but he lit up the AHL in the Regular Season and Playoffs, has history of ELITE production with Debrincat, and has never played with anyone near Patrick Kane's level.

The third player on the Debrincat & Strome line in 2014-2015 was #97 from Edmonton. Some people might say he's better than Kane. My biggest question about Strome has always been, is he the weakest part of the line? Or is he as good as the other people on that line? I guess we will find out. |

He may be, though he and DBC continued to light it up individually the year after McJesus departed.

But the monkey wrench in that is Adb does well in the nhl, streaky, but can carve a top 6 role. Idk if it is how Strome was handled in Ari as far as coaching or what, but he really is a wild card in the trade. |

Hino was a useful bottom 6 player and would be better than anyone in our bottom six right now. Not a legend but useful. So glad we gave him away to get that Hossa cap space that we are using for......NOTHING. Oh yeah, we needed it to extend Schmaltz right?
My point is who cares what Schmaltz wanted for money? The team has control until he is a UFA. Nylander's trade value was hurt by sitting out? Are you kidding? The Hawks act like they are afraid to play hardball in any negotiation. When is the last even good market value deal they got done?
By the way, Fortin sucks at everything except skating fast, in case you haven't noticed. - hereismike1
Hinostroza is a team leading -10 getting basically 3rd line minutes. He is 27% at the faceoff dot. He is/was a nice local story, works hard and is realistically a 4th line / stretch 3rd line role player on teams with no cup aspirations. In terms of better than anyone in the bottom 6 currently, you are not really setting the bar high, but I would rather see Hayden, Kampf, Kahun and maybe even Martinsen play as they have either a higher ceiling or bring more size and physicality. |

Think you and I might be the only two guys that liked Brookbank. Guys was tough and protected a lot of his teammates - Hank3Henshaw
Make it three. I liked his versatility. Think they could go this route with Gus

So, in a nutshell. The Hawks traded a guy who made it to the NHL faster than two guys drafted higher and you know, actually produced at the NHL for two players who have yet to justify their draft slots. Jack Skille anyone?
Strome and Perlini combined have a whopping one more point than Schmaltz. For reference, Ryan Hartman is a more useful player than Perlini and actually will throw a bodycheck.
Its time to get rid of Bowman before he does more damage. - Elbows15
Indeed, I fail to see how it's justified to give up young NHL top 6 potential player going through the motions currently vs what is likely ahl fodder/Marco Dano potential players. At best they will be bottom 6 and there are plenty of those on the roster already.
If you are really giving up on him get a young fast puck moving defenseman maybe from Canes. Or a young promising goalie as Crawford will need successor

If for no other reason, launching Tinkerbell sends a message that players who don’t take/make the hit to make the play have no place on this team. |

Considering that it sounds like Peter Chiarelli makes good trades like Bowman, maybe we can get him for Rutta, Manning, Kunitz, Anisimov, Gustafsson, Hayden and a 7th rounder. |

Hawks traded 1 - 3rd line/depth player in Schmaltz (who is a RFA that may want top 6 $$)...and got 2 - 3rd line/depth players (which the Hawks desperately need - scoring on the bottom 6) and they will be easier to cost control going forward - PatShart
Before we forever banish Strome and Perlini to the bottom 6 can we let them actually play first? If that is where they slot in I’m still in favour of the trade but I’d like to think that JC will try Strome between Cat and Kane. |

I'm calling it now, if Strome wears #17 he will be a nothing. Let's take a trip down memory lane with other Hawks that have worn #17:
Darryl maggs
Dave kryskow
Alain daigle
Peter marsh
Wayne Presley
j.p. Dupont
reto van arx
sheldon brookbank
Jimmy hayes
#17 on the Hawks is the equivalent of wearing a red shirt uniform in the original Star Trek. You just know it will not end well. - Rota's Rooter
Add Joe Murphy?
I thought #6 was that too --- :D

Another trade we got fleeced on!!!
Per Tanner: IF there was one reason I was higher on the Coyotes this summer than most, it was because I felt that some of their under-the-radar pickups, specifically Vinny Hinostroza, Jordan Oesterle and Michael Grabner, were very underrated.
So far, I have been impressed with all three, but especially the blazing fast Hinostroza, who has been great.
In eleven games so far, he's got three goals and three assists. Not exactly mindblowing numbers, but still very good. |
