No, not really. I just value point more than FOs. Crazy, huh? - Elbows15
Snap out of it.....face offs are totes vital. I noticed that a certain former mutual "friend" of ours has written that this trade is good and that face offs is a big reason why. |

In fairness to Stan, I’ve done some extra thinking about the trade.
One way to consider it is ‘would I be as upset if things were reversed?’
The answer is ‘yes, way more’. If Stan traded our [likely maligned to death] #3 and #12 overall picks for a #20 Center with consistency issues we would be losing our minds. |

Lol. I meant board boners, Liver Lips, not my own potential issues.
So, I surmise you're not a fan of the trade? - mohel
Hey, Mohel - if you were what your name implies, you wouldn't worry about having boners.
In a speed league, this trade leaves the Hawks with - WHO, exactly, who has elite speed and can actually finish - no one I can think of.

He might still be upset about Q. He was pretty emotional when it happened. - breadbag
Kane has been playing an insane amount of minutes for a forward. Not surprised his energy level may lag a bit from time to time during games. No doubt the Q fiasco left more than a few players rattled. Whether as a fan you were pro-Q or thought it was time for a change, the timing was about as bad as it could have been. Totally unfair to the players. |

Think you and I might be the only two guys that liked Brookbank. Guys was tough and protected a lot of his teammates - Hank3Henshaw
Give me a Brookbank any day. |

Well, Sage, Elbows was the first to raise boners, so to speak.
On the speed issue, I agree. But I also think 8 was not turning his speed into production. Doesn't mean they had to trade him for an underachieving statue (to date). |

It happened quite a few times last year, too. He definitely hates losing, he's loyal and openly emotional, and he seems more obviously frustrated about the revolving door of subpar line mates/teammates he's had since his mini-me got traded to CBUS (all while hearing about the moves being made to jumpstart 19). No matter the profession, feeling like you've been set up to fail blows.
Regardless, he still does everything he can to not only improve his own game but that of his younger teammates (and even Captain Serious this year) every summer. Has to suck that most of them have been sent away.

Think of Perlini as a better-skating Brouwer . . . can bring depth scoring from third line, but also enough skill to complement true top six forwards. His relative possession metrics are not too different from Brouwer when he played with 19/88 . . . I could see Perlini end up in a similar role on a top line (he's not afraid of the dirty areas). 20 goals, 40 points per year with the occasional big hit. |

Sometimes a change of scenery is necessary: case in Point: Ryan Johansen

Always respected last year when Kane seemed to be the only one (and even voiced it in a post-game interview) who wanted to win and not tank. |

All the more reason to hate the trade. He also thought Marko Dano was a stud in the making. |

The trade itself proves they were tired of waiting on Schmaltz. Part of that waiting process involves analyzing on-ice maturity and personal objectivity. With respect I don’t think you can just say it was a contract issue. If in addition to all his other issues and failings, it looked like Schmaltz over-valued himself that is just another issue. You can’t see management talking about his issues and failings, which were enough to want to move him, and on top of it he wants an undeserved, unearned contract? Here’s the door Nicky. - Z3Hawk Totally agree I feel the brass have been watching Schmaltz's progree. And. JC was a fresh set of eyes; it may explain why he was put on the first line. At the end of the day, they don't have to Hagel a. LTC for an unknown future, and have gotten two kids that need a fresh start with a new coach and be surrounded by the cores success. AND they are coming to a hockey town. Schmaltz was given every opportunity.

Except Johansen put up 63 and 71 points in Columbus before being trading. Other than that, well, they're not related at all |

Hawks traded 1 - 3rd line/depth player in Schmaltz (who is a RFA that may want top 6 $$)...and got 2 - 3rd line/depth players (which the Hawks desperately need - scoring on the bottom 6) and they will be easier to cost control going forward |

Seems to have vanished into the ether between here and Rockford.
Seriously - hope nothing bad happened to him - it's been a couple of years. |

This is kind of what I was thinking.
Schmaltz is a top line player on the Hawks, Yotes and other struggling teams. I'm not sure he's a top line dude on top tier teams. |

Less scoring in the top 6 for more scoring in the bottom 6? Explain this to me.
52 points is top 6 material.
Of course you get cost control. One guy can't play at the NHL level for poop. And the other guy is meh at best. |

If you're the GM would you give him 6mil x 5 years based on what you saw? Maybe it's like the Panarin situation where they weren't willing to pay his price so they bailed on him.
And for the record, I don't see Schmaltz being a guy who helps win a playoff series so he can go. |
