I am so tired of the lack of common sense by both the league and the media with these types of situations. No thought whatsoever given to the concept of 'cause and effect' and the penalty assessed is entirely dependent on who the perpetrator is and how hysterical the talking heads get.
Clearly shown in the video, Roussel has been completely tied up by the official but Vlasic has his hand free and is deliberately grinding the Canuck player's ear with his knuckles. Apparently that's honorable and perfectly acceptable, however Roussel biting the hand that is assaulting him is a disgrace to civilization and an outrage worthy of universal condemnation. - YeOldTimer
Noticed that to, the officals wrap up canuck players right away while the other guy is free, roussel got tackled and pinned down while tanev was skating around free and chirping.

I see two sides. One, the ref bear hugging roussel with his arms tied down while vlasic is free is tough. Vlasic continuing to scrum over the ref, roussel is going to have to do something while hes being restrained. The other side, i have played hockey for over 10 years, and scrums like that happen every game, even in beer league, and not once has a player ever bitten another guy lol. Im not sure if victim blaming a dude that got bit is right, but i dont think i would be quick to defend vlasic if roussel got a hand free and gave him a good shot over the ref in that scenario.
I seen that Vlasic was doing something to his ear. I found the whole story funny - VANTEL
Like, $5K funny?
Other problem is that previous fines are also considered when future suspensions come up for consideration. So next time he does something that's maybe worth a game, he'll get 3.
Vlasic meanwhile gets nothing other than 'thoughts and prayers'. He'll have a clean slate if he's up for suspension in the future.

We just get rid of the Kesler/Burrows stigma and this sh!t happens. We just can't catch a fu**ckin break.
I've played Hockey over 40 years and have seen it all but never a biting incident. It's chicken sh!t and looks bad no matter what the circumstances.

Hansen swatting at the puck in the air and hossa skated right into the swat and Hansen got a record, I think it was a suspension if I recall.

I believe Bieksa when he said players don't care about a fine . Roussel is an agitator . He will not get every call but I am sure glad he is a Canuck.
Roussel doesn't play a game to injure he plays to throw you off your game. I don't see his style being called up to the dean of discipline too often.
