I’m reserving judgement on this deal. I think Perlini helps improve the bottom 6 but both Schmaltz and Strome are big question marks so it will take time to see how that part of the deal works out.
But more importantly... what numbers will the new additions wear? I’m guessing Perlini sticks with #11 and Strome goes with #91. - DarthKane

I think playing Strome with Kane is a great way to ease him into a new team. Hard to name 3 wingers you'd like over Kane as a Center-man in 2018. - EnzoD
Interesting thought, giving Strome a Kane to line up with. I really do like what they are doing in AZ and watch them a bit but Strome has never had a Kane as a wing although Keller is one skilled kid.
Strome gets off to a 3 game start with 2-3 assists, plays + hockey with Kaner? That would be a big confidence builder. ........ I like the idea of starting him with Kane now that you bring it up.

For the Tom Wilson haters out there....Caps are like 8-2 since Wilson came back from suspension. He's not going anywhere, unfortunately. - EnzoD

I don't advocate for the line crossing, but guys that play with his type of physical force combined with skill will always be a huge asset to a team winning hockey games. |

Haven't seen anything about Gus being traded? Or is that hope that he does lol - Savetheembers33
Fingers crossed! Just show Chiarelli that OT GWG and build a trade package around Gus+ for Nurse

most of this board is wetting itself over this trade...everyone whipping boy is now gone...but you really think they solved their top 6 problems with these 2 guys in return???...if it happens its the trade of the decade...
however most likely it doesn't...
looks to me like nothing more than a swap of under performers... - bogiedoc
I’m hopeing it is not. Could be another Panik-type trade. My preference would be that Schmaltz goes on and becomes the type of player the hawks envisioned when he was drafted and that the two guys the hawks got back turn out to be the types of players the hawks envision now.

I think Kunitz has been effective this year as Bruce lee would be if the hawks had him in skates this year. |

Love this trade because I've always hated Schmaltz. He's never shown any heart and shows no willingness to get hit to make a play. Strome gets compared to Joe Thorton because his skill bit lack of speed. If he can be harder on the puck like joe he will succeed in the nhl. Perlini dont know much about him but he played in a horrible organization. I feel sorry for tocchet with the roster he has they still dont have a fm.
As for the games been very disappointed in hayden he needs to be more physical no fights just 1 goal 4 pims -8 in 16 games. Only one check haley played a way better game for Florida him and martinsen need to pick up their physical games.
Nice to see Manning drop the gloves he's not great at it but not burish colin Fraser bad. Brought some energy to the team but man is he bad defensively. We could of got Kurtis Mcdermaid for free on waivers at half the cost he's way better.
Only other notes from the game against fla Gustafson also bad defensively joki is gonna be a stud and thank God kunitz was out. Didnt watch the Tampa bay game but looking at both teams lineups no need to watch was sure it was gonna be a boring soccer on ice matchup which it was. 11 hits as a team? Paquette throwing his weight around without any repercussions. Looking forward to Tuesday hopefully someone lights up reaves with a hit because we know no one will fight him. |

Also what's up with rockford why brett welcyhka nick moutrey hunter fejes playing over someone with potential and a player with a skill set we lack with Conor Moynihan is in the echl. Also with so little toughness why not get a tough guy with a lil skill from the echl there filled with them kale Kessey Garet Hunt or numerous others are way better then these waste of spaces. |

CHI likes that Strome has emerged as a top faceoff centre and believes his skill/smarts will be able to compensate for lack of pop in his skating stride.

The Athletic:
One league scout was skeptical whether Strome would ever put it together at the NHL level.
“Watch his feet and you be the judge,” the scout said. “The things you’ll be wanting to watch with him is his stamina in a shift and his turns.”
The same scout was more optimistic about Perlini’s ability to contribute.
“He’s a second- or third-line wing,” the source said. “He has great wheels and good size. He has limited vision.” |

Cat - Strome - Kane is how I’d go. Gotta give Kane a Right Shooting LW sniper in Cat. Split Kane and Toews and Kane still gets a Centre that can win draws in the O-Zone - Artie can’t. What if the besties Cat and Strome have on-ice chemistry too?

What it is, is on one hand a balsy trade
Each a former #1. Each their GM by moving them - just know each been underwhelming/not reached their ceiling or come close to it - so the GM has a blemish on his drafting record
Ironic or telltale regarding their scouting and draft. Bowman has a committee input but ultimately he - not Mark Kelly, the long time head scout, calls off the drafted player,'s name
What this trade reveals, furthermore, is willingness to accept you are not stubbornly holding on to your top choice no matter what
Recollection is TT also changed address.
Ok, so now you have a big physical type in Petlini
At least he.is pegged as such. In Strome a talented but not more than average skater.
Well with Strome I will just say this,: I do not see him to go on to become a point per have offensive weapon. But regards his skating,; hey Tavarrz is not a speedster either. His skating will always be a source of constant critique, as in when in each game does Colliton reduce his TOI
So we await the new guys impact. perlini net front presence? Kane make either a scorer?
I will guess that bothskr us better than how Schmaltz does here.
Meanwhile Schmaltz joins Keller, Galyenchuk, their center #1 2018 plus second trombone Hinostroza. I don't see toughness up front in Arizona line up - Panic is industrious I suppose. But get this; the Coyotes have been trmatksblu better in the point column this season. Why? Perhaps improbrmr t in roles and they possess mobile defense
Which we need both to happen yonr proud Blackhawks again
For some being I feel better about the next impact forward derives from the 2019 draft as long as Bowman does not select another Schmaltz. I am not expecting the Yeo rebirs not Edjsell to be the answer to top do , although sllcoulf nrcomr nice pieces
I like Sikura still more and the #1 2019 more
things just got more interesting
Iconhtayulsyr Bowman for bring balsy; I do not fwell om the Schmaltz and TT picks. We move on. Speaking of moving along, I predict Murphy, Gus, and Crawford will become headlights too. |

The issue with the Strome's (all 3 of them) is skating. But at least this guy is a hockey player who can distribute from the middle of the rink instead of doing the Kristie Yamaguchi act out in perimeterville. - RickJ
Bowman not afraid to loose his #1first TT now Schmaltz. Means he is a realist and balsy.
I have more faith finding a top six scorer or gritty hopefully top six with #1 2019 and still even Sikura will put up points. Not so muchfaith intheteoneebies to become stalwart #2 line. Neither Edjsell is looking likely fit
What they have in common is that they could become a useful fit on a third line and some time on a higher offensive line. Would love to see Perlini be a net frront presence. Strome is not a good skater, true, but may have moments with Kane or others around. Do he had played junior with DrBrincat. This is not to say how he breaks through as in another weak skater thriving im big show - Tavarez. No Sttomre may never be a full time guy but he could get minutes in strategic parts of games |

"A core that involves Strome is very good." Was also said in his blog, which dealt with something needs to be done to get this team out of the bottom. I'm sure his tune will change when he realizes Schmaltz is the return. What made Strome good, he will now be lacking or not a complete player. Perlini??? Hardly even knew him. |

Apparently, went to bed too early last night. On the face, I like the trade, but it will be interesting to see how all three develop.
I thought for sure Schmaltz would take a big step forward this year instead of one back. The guy has a decent shot but almost refused to unleash it and the pulling up on routine plays was maddening.
Looking forward to seeing the two new Hawks in action. |

How long have the Hawks needed a legit L2 center? 10-12 yrs? I don't blame any Hawk fan for being really excited at the thought the 3rd overall, 6ft 3 in, 200+lb, 2 points per game in the OHL, 1 point per game in the AHL, Strome being that guy at 21 yrs old.
What I'm gonna watch for is his floor. Hell a legit 3C with size who can play shut down and win a draw is a great thing to have. - Mr Ricochet
I don’t see any AHL stats for Strome; Perlini had 17 games in Tucson - 19 points. |

I LOVE this trade. TWO First Rounders one at THREE one at TWELVE - both much higher than Schmaltz at 20. Schmaltz and his complete lack of desire and heart gone. A player who didn’t want to train, to check, to shoot...
It is also addition by subtraction. It will be just such a pleasure to NOT watch Schmaltz and his annoying play anymore. True Grit must be so sad. - Z3Hawk
Agree 100%. One of several Hawks I couldn't/can't stand watching, including Rutta, Kruger, Anisimov, Kunitz, Manning, and in the D-zone Gus. |

Strome being half the player envisioned > Schmaltz at whatever the Hawks thought they had.
Domi was a listless player who was not effective in AZ. Got a change and is at the top of the scoring table.
Dinglecat, Strome and Kane could be a very effective second line. |

I do think it did. Question is how much? ........ We all know Hawks love speed/skill and that's Schmaltz. Is it they realized he'd never be a center? Combination of things? ...... Is this more a dump of Schmaltz or that they coveted Strome and Perlini? ..... Any chance the Hawks insisted Perlini had to be in the deal? ...... No doubting this saves cap money for next yr. Combine that with the cap money Stan has banked is he angling for something big? - Mr Ricochet
Yep. Re-signing Perlini for $7Mx8 yrs, with standard NMC! |
