Was just about to post this. Strome said Dcat is his best friend to this day. Exact words......... We know we're gonna see a happy Strome to start. That's good. - Mr Ricochet
Dylan sounded great in that pod Rico.....hopefully the move does him/us well

Hawks taking a gamble. Time will tell if it pays off, but for now we traded a player from our top 6 for two guys who were 3rd/4th liner minutes for the Yotes. Two bodies coming in pushes someone else out of the lineup. Don't think this will be any immediate help to the team, but they gained some size. I half wonder if this is related to contract talks with Schmaltz more than anything else. - breadbag
It ain't much of a gamble when the guy they moved is doing nothing for them and they look at their roster and come to the realization that at best they finish 6th in the Central with what they have currently.
Hockey Ops gave up on Schmaltz plain and simple. Good riddance

There are 2 r words that should never be used, and that is 1 of them. Remodel, hahaha. I think another in season trade will be made, but I have no clue when, maybe when Murphy and/or Davidson are in the picture again. I never saw this one coming! As far as turning the season around ... we aren't too far out, but the d needs to greatly improve/play consistently. I expect good things ... or Stan will personally hear from me, haha. - I Am The Breadman
Oh, I know we aren't too far out, but they way we have played D lately doesn't inspire much confidence. We've won some games when the goalies stand on their head and we look good at times against some struggling teams, but I'm just saying I don't think they made this trade because they figure it will make a big difference this year. This seems like one of these things we revisit in 3 seasons to see how it turned out for real.
I keep thinking now that these last 6 months are all playing towards the next year or 2. They didn't bite on anything long term for UFAs this summer. Just stop gaps. They fired Q and they are now changing some fundamental systems for the team. Now this trade. Seems like they wanna make a splash next year.

In theory, it’s a 2 for 1 trade on young top 6 projected forwards. The highly touted/drafted true Center in Strome with Kane/Cat is very exciting - EnzoD
Balls deep in love with this trade and I’ll be damned if Perlini doesnt sound like he’s from Londontown. Not many gents from the UK in the NHL! |

I havent looked to see who will be available (would love to see Panarin, although unlikely), but I am very thankful that I will no longer worry about seeing 6x6 next to Nick Schmaltz name. - frafra
I'm in the camp that the Hawks have a dearth of skill in the system and no doubt Schmaltz has that skill. I'm also in the camp that I'm scared shi%less about committing 6 mil and term to the guy. If he could play a legit center I'd feel better about Schmaltz but I don't think he's an NHL center ...... As you mention that is no longer a concern although we do swap out one concern for another.
For those that have been here for awhile know I was screaming inside of 1 minute after they drafted him when Fabbri was still on the board. Watched the kid in jrs play like we saw him here with the Hawks but his defense improved tremendously since jrs.
Will he be another TT? Move on and find his game? Maybe and I'm ok with that cuz as you mention there is a LOT if risk giving him 6 X 6. |

Hopefully Eklund called Tanner to make sure he was still breathing after this trade. He's been hyping Dylan Strome for years New Hot Take: Strome sucks, Schmaltz is Gretzky'esque

While I don't think he has done nothing, we know Schmaltz had a rough first quarter of this year.
They are gambling that they will get more out of the two they picked up. That remains to be seen. Strome could very well still turn out to be a bust. I know Arizona has expected more out of him because of how we'll he did play in Jr and he hasn't lived up to expectations yet. Obviously we hope he does, but they didn't give up nothing here. |

I understand now. Yeah, definitely a trade to analyze down the road. Hopefully, this is SB showing his proactive side. As far as your last point, I would love to take part on the excitement and fun of July 1st. |

He was born in the UK but moved to Canada when he was 10-11 and he’s Canadian now.
JL commented that the Hawks were getting more Canadian with their free agent signings this off season. That trend continues with Perlini and Strome (who is from my home town). |

We need another Hossa like signing.
There are some names that could be decent/okay UFAs.

Yes and the continuing decline in Anisimov’s effectiveness made a top 6 center a huge hole. Perhaps Perlini-Toews-Saad for the
power cycle line - EnzoD
How long have the Hawks needed a legit L2 center? 10-12 yrs? I don't blame any Hawk fan for being really excited at the thought the 3rd overall, 6ft 3 in, 200+lb, 2 points per game in the OHL, 1 point per game in the AHL, Strome being that guy at 21 yrs old.
What I'm gonna watch for is his floor. Hell a legit 3C with size who can play shut down and win a draw is a great thing to have.

I look at this deal this way also...is Strome can pan out, you get younger, cheaper, and better at center. Making Anisimov even more expendable; although not sure how many teams are super hot for Arty right now. What I am curious to see is what Debrincats next contract looks like. I dont think it'll be as big as many would guess. If Schmaltz turns into something greater now, good for him. Hawks cant pay him to be something hes not
They simply cannot afford any more massive contracts in which production doesnt match pay. |

Saad-Toews-Cat
Perlini-Strome-Kane
I think playing Strome with Kane is a great way to ease him into a new team. Hard to name 3 wingers you'd like over Kane as a Center-man in 2018. |

You mean Anders Lee? The former 6th overall pick, age 28, Captain of the Islanders, standing 6'3" 231lbs coming off a 40 goal season and averages 29 goals per 82 games played over his NHL career. |

most of this board is wetting itself over this trade...everyone whipping boy is now gone...but you really think they solved their top 6 problems with these 2 guys in return???...if it happens its the trade of the decade...
however most likely it doesn't...
looks to me like nothing more than a swap of under performers... |

Hawks traded Gustafson too
What time was this trade announced? Enough time for Strome and Perlini to play Tuesday night?
2 for 1 trade, potentially address 2C, and another middle 6 power forward in Perlini for also under-performing Schmaltz |

I’m reserving judgement on this deal. I think Perlini helps improve the bottom 6 but both Schmaltz and Strome are big question marks so it will take time to see how that part of the deal works out.
But more importantly... what numbers will the new additions wear? I’m guessing Perlini sticks with #11 and Strome goes with #91. |
