People need to stop overvaluing the pipeline prospects from Bowman on down to the fans.
There is NOT much NHL level talent in the Hawk system now. For example, Dylan Sikura doesn’t put them over the playoff edge this year. This situation is a combination of the price of success with low draft picks, a conscious shift to speed and skill at the expense of physical presence.
Top ten first rounders have a 68% chance of having a pension eligible NHL career - from there it’s all a crapshoot. So, getting someone in that top ten is the quickest path to adding young ELC NHL talent.
Ted Dent likely did no favors on the talent development side, and now JC is up with the big club.
I am inclined to agree the tank is the only path to rebuild a contending team. As such, I think we all would save ourselves a lot of grief by not holding on to the delusional belief that somehow there is enough transformational talent in the organization to make a hill of beans difference in at least the next few years.
As it stands today the NHL club has four legit forwards, two tweener forwards (NS/Saad), and a bunch of nothing after that.
They have three legit D guys in 2, 7 and Joki, but fuse almost burnt out on the first two, followed by a whole lot of 5-8 guys upslotted out of necessity.
And this group is trying to play a style of hockey they don’t have the horses for.
No cap room, no legit prospects close to moving up, and I think we will find it wasn’t Q either.
Am I wrong? I could be but I don’t think so. - Return of the Roar . I agree roar, thanks to this blog on this site I know now that schmaltz is not the player they thought he'd be, sikura is. 23, and it seems not ready this year. So with D pipeline three years away, it seems that promise to date has stagnated. Seems like we need a good lottery pick this year or next

Look, all I’m saying is IN GENERAL there’s a better chance at finding franchise changing/all star level talent by drafting top 5ish as opposed to 6-15ish. The higher the better. - SimpleJack
I woulda traded the 8th and 27. For tkchauk forgive spelling and zach smith |

Hawks(Toews and Kane) won 3 Cups
Pens(Crosby and Malkin) won 3 Cups
Kings(Doughty and Kopitar) won 2 Cups
Capitals(Ovi and Backstrom) took a while to build the proper supporting cast but eventually won a Cup
Lightning(Stamkos and Hedman) made it to one SCF and will be competing for more Cups in the years to come
Leafs(Matthews, Marner, and Reilly) will be competing for Cups in the years to come - SimpleJack
Point taken. Can a Joki, Bovquist, Dcat develop into franchise players?

Outside of Kane, Toews and DeBrincat, very few have a clue on shooting the puck.

Black Friday sale on all Hawks defenseman!! HUGE savings on quality AHLers like Eric Gustafson, Brandon Manning, and Jan Rutta.
Want overpriced 5/6 Dman? You’re in luck!! Stan Bowman has what you need in Brent Seabrook and Connor Murphy! Signed until he’s 57 at a very inflated $7mil/season, Seabrook brings those “intangibles”.
Not to be confused with the fitness model (thanks google), Connor Murphy has the foot speed of an ECHLer, but was a 1st round pick of the highly successful Coyotes franchise!
Call Stan Bowman now, as these Special Offers won’t last!!! - EnzoD

Agree be nice to see some hustle i think kane toews keith Seabrook know this is not even close to be a playoff team so why bother giving it all. Plus the pp looks the same when coach q was here hm but it was coaching not the personal. |

Point taken. Can a Joki, Bovquist, Dcat develop into franchise players? - Mr Ricochet
Joki possibly. He’s been extremely impressive and is still so young.
Dcat is a solid 50-60pt producer, but more like a Sharp-like quality top 6 piece. A Star. But not a superstar. Not quite franchise changing material. Which is why it’d be nice to draft top 5 the next few seasons to find that piece(preferably a center) |
