I’m not in agreement. It is about accountability. Nothing prevents Colliton from telling players like Hayden, Martinsen, Gus, Rutta and Schmaltz that you either play more aggressively, faster and smarter or you’ll be an Ice Hog.
- Z3Hawk
It usually works only if you have eager equivalent substitutes waiting to take their place. If there is nobody and they know it, threats do not go well.
If there was truth to the rumor that Q run this team as country club for several years, it will likely be a lasting damage and will take a new generation of players with different work ethic to undo. |

Coaches don't play. This team is what mgt has wrought with bad trade after worst trade after record setting bad trade. Q would make a good gm. Need healing right now. Pay him. |

Great insight and very reasonable to write off a 19 yr old who is 22 games into career - dpard
Thanks ! Just going on Blowman's track record. Outside of Clendening, Dalhquist and maybe some other bum i can't think of now, our GM has yet to draft a LEGIT....not even TOP 4....but TOP 6 D-MAN. That's a MAJOR WHIFF by Stan and the scouts. But the keep the faith in Jokiharwho....i'm sure he'll make us proud.

Is Schmaltz really any different than Brandon Pirri was when the Hawks needed a #2 center a few years ago?
At some point they need to make the big decision on #8 - either no future and get rid of him or send him to Rockford for some very tough instructional work because he is basically useless in the NHL right now. - RickJ
He's a Bowman pick. Euro Charmin and U.S. development WANKS....that's the M/O of our brilliant brain trust. |

Canadian here. Number of years ago we started trying to score some fun on the American Thanksgiving too. Our thinking - who wouldn’t want two Thanksgivings? We try to book off work completely unless impossible or at least early. Watch some parades and NFL Football. Make Thanksgiving food too. It’s a blast. - Z3Hawk
I had a Canadian girlfriend for many years. We’d always make the trip north in October for her mom’s cooking then do our own in November. So good. |

I am attempting to look at the situation with player personnel and their performance honestly and I believe Bowman already has. His future moves are predicated by the one goal now to get back into playoff contention each year.
Bowman has done enough to merit the rebuild in the eyes of Rocky.
Sure we know he has made poor moves. I am not exactly thrilled with his continuation, but it is primarily his drafting which concerns me. Do not want another Schmaultz taken round #1. Otherwise last few years he has drafted well. We are fat at seams with prospects, just not probably a star forward (see comment to Sikura below)
I do not expect bad trades forthcoming due to salary cap constraints. I am curious if ownership is merely trying to be competitive with Crawford and would move him at the trade deadline. The objective is to try to collect second round choices: I wish instead veterans are moved and somehow we move up higher with a second #1 or a top six #1
The top six I is where you need to get your difference makers, wiz has the told me.
At various points this season and beyond Gus, Murphy, Anisinov and maybe Crawford should be at a new address. I am not a Hayden or Schmautz fan. D Sikura needs an opportunity to shine.
The stark reality is that we are expecting the Boqvist and Beaudin particularly to play better defensively (after they break in) than Gus. We should have offensive firepower, puck movers and great from each pair on our future blueline.
We need to establish a grinder type or recycle the puck along boards as a second line to augment Kane's line. Schmautz is not the person for this line. Would love B Tzachuck type here.....but I do it look at draft possibilities until after the WJC. |

Let us be thankful for everything today, including that the Bears will continue their upswing and the Blackhawks will rise up again (after trading veterans s and bottoming out). |

Time is now to move Schmaltz. If they keep waiting all of his trade value will go the way of Kyle Beach. As it stands now. He is going to have to be part of a larger deal to hide the decline in value.
JL, any rumblings about upcoming moves? It is obvious the Hawks are committed to Colliton's success, but he cannot be successful with this roster. The front office must know this despite their public comments when they let Q go. Something needs to be churning. |

He’s 22. Can skate. Good hands. Good skill potential.

Then figure it out - he may not ever fit - but, given some time, he might.
It’s not like the system is full of potential top-6 forwards with his development possibilities.
If they’re going to wait for fully-baked skaters in the draft - tanking or not - it’s going to be a very slow rise - if rise there is.
If they can’t take raw talent and develop it into a “fit” - then fire everyone (including Rocky) and relegate to the “A”. |

Very few players are ready to make the jump to be productive NHL players. Kane had to work on areas of his game after he made the NHL. Maybe the Hawks should have moved him when he missed backchecking assignments, or didn't get the puck deep leading to a turnover. or when he stickhandled or passed the puck into a giveaway when he was 22? |

Schmaltz is still an asset that's worth something. Is he worth $6m per year? Maybe for a couple of years, ala Panarin, in order to hedge your bet. If he turns into an $8m per year kind of player in that time, great. They need to be careful not to over pay him. If another team is willing to trade a better player for a package that would include Schmaltz, I'd probably do it, depending on who else they want. I hope he figures it out. |

At this point, he is on his way to decrease his point total from last year by half. He is moving in the wrong direction. He can still be valuable as an asset before it is too late. This team will not get better unless they begin thinking outside the box. |

I'd bet the farm if the Hawks let him go only to see him come into his own you'd be the first criticizing the team for letting him go.
As Sage said, he's young, he skates well, he has good hands and he has a ton of untapped potential. Yes he has holes in his game, hockey sense, light on his feet and unwilling to play in traffic, but the team can't give up on the talent he does have until they do everything they can to work with hinm to improve. |

He may come into his own outside of. Chi. With a more aggressive team, he will know his role. And may florish as a skilled player. Where he is on a team with no edge, he has flatlined. Some people here say. 6. Mil a year. There is no way I see more than. 3.5 mil a year.

Ok smart guy you tell me then, without taking anyone’s advice, do the Hawks have a lot of under 23 game changing/all-star level talent compared to most other teams?
Answer: no
