Not having to pay the bonus definitely played into the return.
- Sabre_Tooth

good point...and they'll be able to take on a sizeable skinner cap-hit with that $7.5M off the books

probably the only deal on the table with stl when it came to taking o'reilly and his contract
- Michael Pachla

Well if that’s the case,
then Botts shouldn’t have made a desperate trade
It’s not like the Kane situation where he just had to take what he could get or lose him for nothing

Regardless...
it’s still right to question when u bring guys in that don’t fit the style game u want to play
If they each had a year left,
then maybe u could say they were placeholders
That’s not the case though

So i think it’s fair to question what happened

Pilut called up!
- mattmoulson

Scandella was injured Monday in Pittsburgh right?
This is probably the reason for the call up.
Guhle is not the "golden child" anymore I take it?

Sobatka + Berglund cost around 7.3mil

That’s not the point I’m making though

Botts said over & over & over,
that we needed to get faster up front

Then he traded for 3 guys who aren’t fast

It just makes me question the direction of the type of team he’s building

Did he change his mind about getting faster?
Did he think we needed a couple decent players (Berglund & Sobatka) that badly to stabilize the bottom6,
that he decided to put getting faster on hold?
What role were these guys actually brought in to do?
Berglund went from 2C to 4W pretty quick
That couldn’t have been the plan
Sobatka as a setup guy for Okposo, Sam, Sheary, etc
That baffles me too

IT’S NOT THAT WE TRADED ROR
It’s that the return just doesn’t make any sense at all to me

- jdfitz77

Yeah, I don't understand the point at all.

Sobotka
Thompson
RoR
Berglund

That's in order of fastest to slowest. So we did get faster...

Bergy was brought in to mentor the 6 or 7 young Swedes we have/are getting. Still think a couple years from now we'll be singing praises about this trade.

from everything I've read and heard, o'reilly needed to go...pretty sure everyone in the league knew that too...it wasn't the greatest of returns but he got him out of the locker room and out from under that $7.5M cap-hit...

under those circumstances there shouldn't be much of a problem with the return

He’s a career 12.5% shooter.

Taking away his empty netter he has 1 goal on 22 shots.

He in reality should have 3 or 4 goals and be on pace for 12-15 in a 4th line role.

He needs to produce more but he’s been unlucky this year

- sbroads24

I think it's his linemates that are the problem, sure they can get the puck into the O-Zone, but once there they have no (frank)ing clue what to do with it, they had that one good chance with the saucer/lob pass to the near post in the Wild game, but that's about it, they kind of just skate around with it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's not good either.

I don't know what his game looks like, but he's having a decent year. Pilut is lighting the league on fire though, he's earned it.

Nail on the head.

They can possess the puck, but they create no offense really. Perimeter shots and a few odd man rushes are the best you can expect. Bergs hasn't been good, but his production could very well get better if he wasn't playing with the guys he is.

Is Pilut playing or eating popcorn tonight? I would love to see him play against NHL'ers.

3 for 3 with the reverse pick. The winning continues tonight for the Sabs.

Flyers 4 Swords 3 OT

GO SABRES!

Awesome that Pilut has been recalled. Kinda surprising because Beaulieau can play unless there is something else going on.

Put Berglund with Jack and Skinner, I guarantee he would score more than either Larsson or Girgs. Conversely, replace Skinner and Pommer with Larsson/Girgs and Jack's numbers would take a tumble.

The Oilers are the dining room table, or more specifically, Connor McDavid is. The dining room table provides the foundation on which everything is placed. Without the dining room table, the entire meal would plummet to the floor in a heaping mass of shattered glass and splattered food. Now, you might be saying, "This table is so beautiful, why not add things to take advantage of this sturdy table. Maybe some flowers, or a full table-scape. Maybe some fine china, or some lovely linens?" Oh, wait, sorry ... we're actually at Peter Chiarelli's for Thanksgiving this year, and he just sawed off one of the table's legs and sold it for a bag of magic beans. Whoops.

More of ESPN's power rankings.

And that should be the case. Berg was more of a scorer than the other two have ever been. It's a 50/50. I understand folks wanting more from him, I understand that his linemates are a valid excuse.

Larsson is the black hole of offense. Once you're sucked into the event horizon, no goals can escape

I'm telling you, he's going to bang in a garbage goal tonight if you keep this up.
