Kypreos suggested David savard and Josh Anderson for nylander kind of says all you need to know about kipper.

Apple orchard seems too weird of a nickname. Just call him magic.

Kypreos is an idiot at the best of times, I have no idea how he keeps that job.

Honestly I don't really care about how much money Nylander's camp is asking for or how much the Leafs are willing to pay for him right now.

This team is killing it without him in the lineup this year. That in and of itself decreases his value to the team and makes him more expendable IMO.

I really don't want to see him traded, I just got his Young Guns card to add to my collection a couple of weeks ago. I hope he stays.

That being said, I think if he doesn't give and the Leafs can't find the right trade for him I have no problem with seeing him sit out the season.

- Kinger34

I'll trade you a Brett Pesce rookie for it

He also suggested Gudbranson for Nylander or Marner a year or so ago.

Honestly, it would kind of suck for the Leafs if they signed him 11th hour, especially if the team is still winning. The media would become a circus and to me that would be a huge distraction for the team. I'm sure some players will take him back and say its just business, but there will definitely be some who won't like it.

Do you think once Nylander situation is taken care of or at least on the back burner that Matthews or Marner is extended?

- Glak18

Don't think either of them are extended until after the season.

Anyway,

McElhinney gets the start tonight.

Victor Rask makes his season debut after requiring surgery on his hand.

Micheal Ferland - Sebastian Aho - Teuvo Teravainen
Brock McGinn - Jordan Staal - Justin Williams
Andrei Svechnikov - Lucas Wallmark - Jordan Martinook
Warren Foegele - Victor Rask - Phil Di Giuseppe

Jaccob Slavin - Dougie Hamilton
Calvin de Haan - Justin Faulk
Haydn Fleury - Trevor van Riemsdyk

Curtis McElhinney
Scott Darling

Brett Pesce is out with an alleged "lower body injury" still.

Yeah but that's the Leafs problem, not Nylander's, right?

If he signs a bridge deal it could become Nylander's problem. That's why he's holding out for this.

- BINGO!

Leafs don't have a problem...they will if they sign Willie for too much. They've got the same output from Kapanen as they have Nylander last yr vs this year...plus Kap is a AAA1 penalty killer....Willie is a great PP guy...but we have lots of those IMO

The only one with a problem is Nylander, as it should be.

He's more comparable to Kadri then Matthews when it comes to value.

Sign a bridge if you don't like the long term deal.....he has no options other then not playing in the NHL.

I still think he signs 11/30 - 12/1 whatever day the deadline is.

This is 100% correct! He may be the star on a dozen other teams and be worth more to them but the reality is he is at most the 4th best on this team so he needs to paid accordingly.
- justmike

How you good you perform on a team doesn't really control your salary as long as the GM isn't in Buffalo or Edmonton. Your performance is compared to your peers, and the price is objectively determined through comparative metrics. It's not like Brendan Gallagher is an $8m player even though he was the Habs best player last year.

The fact that they can't seem to agree on a baseline for metrics - probably because Chiarelli is a moron - is really the problem.

They're just resting him so he isn't hurt when he has to replace Hamilton in your line-up after the trade.

I’m still thinking Dubas and nylander are having their poker face on and buying time to 11th hour
Nylander signs huge signing bonus this year push $ to $7.25 and year 2 thru 6 at $6.75

Although I agree with you to an extent the reality is if there are 3 other guys on the team that are clearly better than you they will be paid more so in a salary cap world that is just the way it is, we have a max amount we can pay, if you want to win great, sign here, if you are just looking for the best payday possible be prepared to play for whatever team ponies up the best offer.

Maybe.

I can see it possibly happening, but I'd think they'd still prefer to send Pesce as part of a package.

We only knew it was an upper body injury.

Now that we know it was his hand, we'll be slashing it all night!

Ummmm....

So, Bingo, what hand was that again? The left one? The right one?

I really can't!. Now, I'm not going to say that I place full value in advanced metrics, but I find it a very useful tool when I'm researching into areas I don't know enough about (ie, the value of other teams' defensemen).

When you take into consideration performance vs Quality of Competition - Hamilton has been an elite performer - top 2 - over the past couple of years. Slavin is right up there as well. Last year Pesce was a strong performer. This year he's tailed off a bit.

If there's a trade to be made, Carolina is still probably the best suitor.

You know, on the whole "Leafs suck defensively and are only being saved by Andersen and should trade Nylander for D" front... I just pulled some numbers from Natural Stat trick... Leafs have the 4th best HDSA/60. Their HDCA/60 is worse, at 12th, but that just means a lot of "chances" teams are getting against the Leafs aren't even winding up on net... probably because of what the eye-test tells us... the team is getting in the shooting lanes, and not giving other teams clear shots and Andersen.

Leafs currently only allow 7.54 high-danger shots per game.

Our HDSV% is ranked 16th in the league.

So is it Andersen making the Leafs good, or visa versa?
