I don't know if it is all that broken. The RFA system is designed to protect the team not the player. A player doesn't really have seniority yet in the league. They haven't yet earned the same protections as other members. So the CBA likely concedes to protect it's more senior members. The teams still need a chance to build their youth without giving away too much power.
I don't know why a player coming out of their ELC doesn't get arbitration rights. That part doesn't make sense. Not to mention a lack of mediation application for these types of scenarios.
I'd wholly agree that there has to be a way to resolve these types of situations more efficiently, but I would still strongly side with the team until a player reaches a certain age. - Monkeypunk

This is about as realistic as every single other trade proposal you've offered, especially considering I don't want children. - TheMussel
I once thought like that, then I thought well I don't want 2, now I am very sure I don't want 5. |

We have bigger problems than Nylander holding out right now how are going to win the Jennings and the Calder trophies this year? I think we have the rest covered.
We need Anderson/sparks to tighten up and Johnsson to be put on one of the top two lines. |

I basically never side with a team - BINGO!
It's an easy trap for any of us to objectively spin in. The team has all the money and holds all the cards. The players are the product. Without the players, the team is nothing. Without the teams, the players are potentially thugs who know how to skate.
It's a never-ending game of tug-of-war, but I think if you're going to look at cost reduction for the teams, you need to make a "prove yourself" period for the players. I know that's what the ELC period is, but a state of additional control beyond that might not be too bad.
All that blather aside, I still think if there was arbitration or mandated mediation after a certain period, none of this would be an issue. |

Its hard to justify a player getting 8 million after two 60 point seasons.
The tables turn when you are a UFA. They gain all the leverage. |

I don't think there SHOULD be cost reduction for teams. That's what the salary cap is for.
I'm also all-in on abolishing the draft but maintaining a hard salary cap. |

Pass, Arizona may fold as a franchise by 2020. We'd be left with no draft pick |

I'm rooting for Hitch.
I like the dude.
He demands total commitment from his players. If you buy in, you thrive. If you don't buy in, well, Edmonton can be a very, very cold place.
And I want McDavid to do well. |

The Leafs traded down from the 1st round to the 2nd round. The compensation they got? a 3rd round pick.
You are essentially saying a 3rd round pick moves the needle.
Stop wasting your time and more importantly everyone elses time with these stupid proposals. |

The Me-lander speculation is reaching fever pitch, but at least he's a great player. Remember the Jimmy Vesey sweepstakes? That was the strangest phenomenon |
