Nylander is free to sign an offer-sheet with any team. The kid is holding out on the entire league, not just the Leafs.. Starting to think, he only wants to play in the KHL. - PatC80
That's the wheel of suck that is the Offer Sheet process.
You have to give him what he wants - $8m; go less and the Leafs will likely match.
If you offer a bridge deal, the Leafs will match.
If you offer him $8m, but shorten the term, you're not buying up any UFA years, and are seriously overpaying him.
If you offer him $8m and buy into his UFA years (7 year term), your AAV ends up being over $11m for Offer Sheet considerations and you're paying 4 1sts.

Trade Nylander to the Leafs for a 7x7 contract - senstroll
I don't even know what is going to happen at this point.
Even respectable insiders like Bobby Mac sounds like he doesn't have a clue. His best work from this situation was asking an agent not affiliated with the negotiation what he would do if he was Nylanders agent
A decision will be made and then we can debate about it...but at this point no one knows poop. |

This is about as realistic as every single other trade proposal you've offered, especially considering I don't want children. |

Chicago has nothing we need at the moment. Leafs don't need picks and prospects, if any deal did happen, it would need to include Jokiharju. - PatC80
On the video attached to the "Nylander for Saad" nonsense from TSN, Button said that there wasn't a chance that Chicago would add Jokiharju.
Which killed me . Like, that's still not good for Bill Ny. |

9 more days of this right? Hopefully sooner tho I’m sure it’s been a blast to discuss every Nylander trade scenario under the sun every day of the week - RatedR80
Yup,

I watched a bit of that segment, Button wasnt really saying thats what the Leafs should do or saying its fair..just a talking point.. I guess they do have to fill air time.
I would be the most boring host or guest...Id just say sign him. next topic - senstroll
Right after he said it, both Andi and Mike had to bite their tongues so as to not call him an idiot. |

Also, for the team in the room and the fans it's all about winning the cup. But Nylander's paycheck doesn't come out of Dubas' pocket. It comes out of Bell and Rogers' pocket. I can almost certainly guarantee you that they are more concerned with the bottom line than winning the cup, and ultimately Dubas and Shanahan represent them in this negotiation.
The idea that he's not a team player because he doesn't want to take less money than what he's asking for is very presumptive, I think. - TheMussel

Sadly I would take those over the nylander trade talk. |

I never said they were cheap (when it comes to hockey, they're scum when it comes to telecommunications)
They are, however, concerned with profit - TheMussel
yes, and quite frankly, paying Nylander more money will not change what they pay their team in total one penny, because they'll be at or near the cap either way.
so, if you know that your player costs are pretty much set, how else might you maximize profit???? By maximizing revenue.
What's the best way of doing that? Winning. |

I think the + would need to be McDavid with 50% salary retained by the Oilers.

I don't know if it is all that broken. The RFA system is designed to protect the team not the player. A player doesn't really have seniority yet in the league. They haven't yet earned the same protections as other members. So the CBA likely concedes to protect it's more senior members. The teams still need a chance to build their youth without giving away too much power.
I don't know why a player coming out of their ELC doesn't get arbitration rights. That part doesn't make sense. Not to mention a lack of mediation application for these types of scenarios.
I'd wholly agree that there has to be a way to resolve these types of situations more efficiently, but I would still strongly side with the team until a player reaches a certain age. - Monkeypunk
THIS.
Otherwise what's the point of having draft picks? Just do a free agency system upon entering the league. |
