Will Hakstol prepare the players to be ready to play in the 3rd period or will the players not be aware that they have to compete and play hard in the 3rd period? - MJL

No one is without blame this season. Hextall, Hak, the assistant coaches, the players; they all share the blame. However this is pro sports. The GM isn’t going to trade half the roster, nor is he going to fire himself. If this team doesn’t pick it up, it will be the coach that’s the first to go. That’s just the way it is. - BiggE

Filppula is a +9 this season playing 2nd line minutes, and top unit PK minutes (Islanders PK is mid-pack). In the last 12 games last season the PK was top 10 in the NHL at 84%. Not great, but respectable. Sure, Provorov and Coots were logging a lot of minutes but right up there with them the top 7 in PK minutes: Matt Read, Filppula and Manning. Just saying. - hockeyal

It just goes to the stupid and asinine narrative that Hakstol didn't have them ready to play in the first period and it's his fault. You were one pushing that nonsense so I want to know from you what the coach did differently to prepare the team to be ready to play in the 2nd period?

That's how they said it went down. Knew he had given them a bad roster for 2006-07, knew that Hitch wasn't the coach for a rebuild. Gave Hitch the shiv before walking away |

Install systems, provide specific information on a teams breakouts, neutral zone systems obtained from advanced scouting. Run practices. Give individual and team instruction. Set lines and player lineups. Change lines during games. Etc, etc.

I'll take that as a no.
I know this may be hard for you to understand, but both of these things can be true
The players are responsible to play the way they know how to play.
The coaches are responsible to put players in the best situations to succeed, and hold them accountable if the players are not holding up their end of the bargain.
At this point, everyone is aware of your bizarre sexual gratification of arguing with people non stop, as you've been doing it for 11 (frank)ing years on this board. You are just insulting people tonight and I'm just thinking you might need a life coach to help you get past this. |

Can anyone tell me what Hakstol did differently to prepare the team for the 2nd period that he didn't do for the first period?
Was it something like this? "Well guys, my bad. I didn't prepare you for the first period and let you know that the game started and that the first period actually counts. So how about we go out in the 2nd period ready to play and compete and skate? Let's go team!
The players respond" Okay coach, we didn't know we had to play hard in the first period" - MJL
Did you play hockey? I’m just curious. |

This isn't a must-win, but man, if they can get even a point out of this thing, it would be huge. You can't let these teams in front of you in the Metropolitan run away from you, as best you can |

I’m a sick man.
I’d like to see an official hammered behind the net. Get up after with no damage done, but still...
I’d love to see that. |

The kids need to play well, but they need to lose this one.
It’s bigger picture in my head. Any stupid win here just delays what should happen. Q is still out there. There is hope yet. |
