If they come back to win this do you really consider this a successful game? Absolving the coaching staff yet another day? Sigh. - flyer_nutter
Exactly. This guy has to go. Sooner the better. The whole staff. |

That’s fair, but it still doesn’t excuse the way they started this game. |

Much better second period. Don’t understand why they need to get scored on 4 times before they wake up? |

Can anyone tell me what Hakstol did differently to prepare the team for the 2nd period that he didn't do for the first period?
Was it something like this? "Well guys, my bad. I didn't prepare you for the first period and let you know that the game started and that the first period actually counts. So how about we go out in the 2nd period ready to play and compete and skate? Let's go team!
The players respond" Okay coach, we didn't know we had to play hard in the first period" |

Exactly -- nobody wants to be negative, but you can't ignore how you got down 4-0.
You started Alex Lyon because you felt you had to, and the PK gave up another one. They scored three times on their first, what, eight or nine shots?
You can't just ignore everything that's happened because they played better one period. You might have dug a hole too deep to climb out of in the first |

In all fairness, Buffalo sat back like hell for the most part of that period. Allowed the Flyers to actually transition.
Boys played better for sure though. |

No one is without blame this season. Hextall, Hak, the assistant coaches, the players; they all share the blame. However this is pro sports. The GM isn’t going to trade half the roster, nor is he going to fire himself. If this team doesn’t pick it up, it will be the coach that’s the first to go. That’s just the way it is. |

That is true look at Edmonton yesterday. Chiarelli prob the worst GM currently with all the bad moves he has made but saved his job until the end of the season at least by firing the Coach. |

And one more thing about this brilliant coach. Benching guys like Konecny, Ghost, Hagg, and Sanheim for mistakes over the years while guys like Simmonds, Gudas, AMAC and especially Voracek make the same egregious mistakes with impunity does not make you some great coach that is teaching the young players.
It makes you a hypocrite who is too scared to send a message to your veteran players, instead taking the easy way out and benching young guys. Nothing like sitting your young players while trying to “rebuild”.
Smart. - Flyers1218
This is a really bad post. First of all, Hakstol has taken away ice time from young players not for making a mistake but for a period of play and making repeated mistakes. It normally follows a process of reduced ice time before being scratched.
Do you know what other coaches treat young players differently than veterans? Every other NHL coach.
Letting young players know that they're not playing the right way and that ice time is earned not given is a cornerstone of player development.

If they find a way to come back and win this game, that will be the story tomorrow. But to me, the story is how they were totally unprepared to play at the start of the game. You cannot keep falling way behind in games and not eventually pay a price for it. It takes a lot of energy to be constantly chasing games and it will burn out your best players. - BiggE
Not the way to play. |

That 2nd period has me even more pissed off. Unbelievably aggravated that they can play that way in the 2nd but play the way they started the game. Unacceptable. |

Totally different situation. Edmonton's coach was on the hot seat to start this year. And Chia wasn't far behind him.
Hextall wasn't anywhere close to that and even Hakstol had a leash.
The dumpster fire of a PK and the show starts are beginning to fuel the fire |

Will Hakstol prepare the players to be ready to play in the 3rd period or will the players not be aware that they have to compete and play hard in the 3rd period? |

I don't doubt after the time out lecture, that locker room was very uncomfortable during intermission one. I bet it's still uncomfortable during this one. |
