The Sabres are that turkey that has been sitting in a smoker for like 10 hours. You can see it. You can smell it. You're pretty sure good things are happening. Then it's finally ready after a long, painful wait that consumed multiple coaches and at least one general manager. (It's then served on a table that has been set on fire, per Buffalo sports fan rules.)

So I had to do a good deal of Googling and Wikipedia stuff, but it was April 30, 2006.

The whole arena was insanely electric, The Flyers in town for the first round of the playoffs, and Timmy C dangled a SICK goal to send the crowd into pandemonium.

It has been a long time since BUF felt that way about the Sabres. God I wish I had the time to get there tonight. I’m pretty certain the arena is going to feel that way again, tonight, and for a while For those of you young immortals who are new to it, welcome aboard.

I think we’re going to be good.
