I woundln't mind the Blues and Sharks both failing this year.

They both are F(_*^ in terms of cap space.

If they both push to next year and they have no choice but to give the Sabres firsts regardless.

San jose loses
Thrnton
PAvelski
KArlsson

St Louis has so many RFAs and less than a mil in cap space, they will have to move important pieces out.

Great title for this post, MP!

Haven't heard that one in decades, especially living out in Colorado for the past 20 years. The Amherst, NY travel hockey team I played on in the 80's adopted that from the Sabres of the time, and our parents and siblings would exuberantly chant it during our games: 'Ooh Ah, Amherst on the Warpath...'

props to my brother who texted me that as I was finishing up this blog

Frank that. You gotta pay for talent... Kings, Pens and Hawks have all won the CUP. I will gladly go back to being the laughing stock of the NHL for ONE cup......
- hehateme

I know what you have to pay for, Botterill is smart he won't get roped into something. Skinner wants to stay and all numbers are just starting points. When you actually sit down and talk contract, numbers and players, things will change.

skinner's a finisher with a nose for the net...if he likes it in Buffalo, which by all indications he does, and if he likes his team, and there's no reason he shouldn't right now, an 8yr/$68 million contract should be just about right...can't see it going for much less or much more

All starting point numbers I was told, should hear more in the next month or so.

We should be targeting a guy like Adrian kempe from the Kings not Malkin. Sticking with the Pittsburgh theme however I think Brassard could be a good fit here but I don’t think Pittsburgh is looking to subtract.

That division is pretty bad. It would take an epic fluckup to miss the playoffs

Pittsburgh is in no mans land

Cant mortgage the future to add.
Cant tear it down because trading Crosby or Malkin is career suicide.

They are F()*^.

Thats what happens when you constantly go for it every year, it eventually catches up.

Bergeron out at least 4 weeks. Time for the Sabres to put some space between them and the B's.

And I can't see them getting anything good for anyone else

Hornqvist? Nah
Letang? Almost finished
Maatta? Eh
Murray? Nope
Fat man Phil? Maybe.

Great write up Pach. And I am old enough to remember "Ooh ah, Sabres on the warpath". You and I must be roughly the same age or vintage.

IMO - i don't want Botts to "pull a Murray" and do anything knee jerk because we are winning some games right now. The biggest thing he can do this year is get Skinner signed. Keep the 1sts, tweak around the edges, try to unload 1 or 2 more stinker contracts and we'll be set up for the next 10-years. Anything above 85 points this year exceeds my expectations.

JB's not an impulse buyer. It's been a fun stretch of games, but I doubt it's done anything to change his long term plans. Also keep in mind that we barely have 1m of cap space.

Hmm...I believe the conditions are just different, right?

I think it can still be pushed, but either Ottawa or is get the pick this year

Different sport but the Broncos’ struggles haven’t bothered me one bit since we won Super Bowl 50. I’m sure if the Sabres won the cup and then became the Kings or Chicago of today then so be it. Can always buy the DVD and relive it every year haha

If they miss the playoffs this year Ottawa gets the pick and we get the 2020. If they make the playoffs we get the puck and Ottawa gets 2020. It’s all based on performance on the team at this point.
