I agree, I am not a fan of it either. It sucks Raanta is injured in Arizona right now, that team has zero scoring punch, but has goaltending and team defense. Seems like a good trade partner to help each other.

I don’t see any reason to move G to center. 5 on 5 play isn’t what’s hurting this team. It’s the special teams that are killing them.

I dont really believe in a shut down line but thats just me. Your top players need to be able to outplay the top players on the other team. Otherwise these shut down lines just end up playing too much and not really doing anything to help the team win (score goals themselves).

If moving G to the middle allows them to have a more balanced group so be it. I just dont want to see some 3rd line thrown out there in an archaic mindset of having to "match up".

I agree with you to a point. Ideally you'd like to have 4 solid lines where any line can play against another team's top line. Maybe not shift for shift but you want to have options. You don't want a checking line that doesn't have a lot of offensive ability to play 20 minutes at ES against an opposition top line. The problem is you also don't want your top line spending half the game or more defending against a top line.

He's got more cups than our entire franchise. I hope Hexy made a call even if he wasn't planning to fire Hak.

That was a pretty intense crotch grab! He got way up under there. I’m a little creeped out by this.

Again I personally feel this team has options, whether it means line changes or players in the system. I personally like Giroux with Couturier because that gives them 2 great faceoff guys together. Although if the problem is they need a 3C to match up against other top lines then moving Coots down doesn't make sense. Most of the problems this team has seen isn't against players playing 6-8 minutes, it's against the players playing the top minutes.

Giroux and Coots together is 100% Hak. Maybe another coach would separate them again and even out minutes. Then again that involves changing things. The best tactic is to keep everything the same and eventually it will work...right?

Moving G to C wrecks out offense. Sure you got 3 Talented Cs but now our LW is weak again. W have JVR Lindblom and Laughton. Ia ready am not a big fan of Lindblom on line 2. He just hasnt shown enough to be there. Id like to try

JVR-Couturier-Voracek
Giroux - NoPa - Konecny

Like Bill said, there is no reason to worry about the PP. There is a ton of threats there and I really liked Konecny on that top unit. PK on the other hand needs a revamp. I know people hate the passive box but there is nothing wrong with it.

Passive box does what it needs to do and that is take away the middle of the ice. The PP is not much of a threat from the perimeter. Problem teams have been able to get Phili to break their formation fairly easily. We see it often where the Dmen leave the middle of the ice and leave a guy there alone. If the Passive Box is executed properly, it is a good PK formation. The Flyers are not doing a good job of that.

I find it interesting to hear other people's evaluation of players. Anything specific? Not enough fancy highlights? What hasn't he shown?

He just isnt generating offense. When I watch him play I dont feel he is much of a threat.

Well to be fair, watching the whole team this year I have felt that way. So is it the act of generating offense or actually producing offense?

The top line to me looks consistantly dangerous. Coots, Giroux and Konecny look dangerous the majority of the time I see them. Voracek NoPa, Weise, Laughton, NAK have all looked dangerous at times and have created a scoring chances themselves. I cant say that about Lindblom. To me it just seems that he is along for the ride. I havent watched every game so perhaps I missed some of his better games.

I've seen him generate from the old Gretzky office. I want him on pp2 and them to vary the setup between the units

Add Shea Weber.... this era's Pronger
I know a big cap hit, but he helps on PP on PK, adds vet leadership
He is just about to start playing this season
hell if he retires early, it doesnt hurt the Flyers

Charlie O'Conner made a great point over at The Athletic about Q.

Basically, Q was criticized by many in Chicago for his refusal to use young players in significant roles in his lineup.

Sound familiar?

Certainly not Hak given how many young players in significant roles the Flyers currently are putting out there.

TK on first line
NoPa and Lindblom
Ghost, Provy, Hagg, Sanheim on D.

Understood, but there is a segment of the fanbase that feels like Hakstol actually has held back young talent.

I'm hoping someone could clarify this for me:

If Nylander is an RFA and gets traded would he be able to decline with the new team?

Would this require the Leafs to sign and then trade?

The Flyers don't use a Passive box penalty kill. They use a Wedge +1 PK system. Regardless, I agree that there is nothing wrong with the Flyers PK system if executed properly.

Toronto had to submit a qualifying offer to Nylander to keep his rights, I would assume those rights are transferred over to the other team in a trade.

Yes, he could still holdout with the new team, they would have to agree on a new contract.

He's a rookie in the NHL and he is on pace for a 16 goal, 40 point season. He's also strong on the forecheck and plays well defensively.

He's already lost a good amount of money and playing time. He's foolish. No need to continue to figure it out.
