I have to give credit to Zib, he and his linemates were great last night defensively, usually something Zib isn't know for at all. And really thats what it comes down to for me. So far Hayes and Zibs production has been similar, I think Hayes is noticeable even when he isn't putting up points offensively and defensively. Zib seems to disappear completely and then have a few good games. He is usually pretty bad defensively too. So if I have to look at it like that, I would rather keep Hayes, pay him a little bit more and trade Zib. I think Hayes is the better all around player by a little bit. imo

the guys that are UFA's after the season are their own special case

it would be irresponsible to go past the deadline and let Hayes and Zucc go to July 1st and become free agents without getting something for them

unless they sign them to extensions

and as we saw earlier, Panarin is going to cost Tavares money

we start giving Hayes 6 million a year, that could take us out of that, unless they trade Zib like MDW suggests

- jimbro83

Depends on what cap is next year. If they bought out Staal. If they trade Smith or Shattenkirk by eating some $. Could also deal Strome. Lots of ways to create room.

Hey, he played great defensively last night. Doesn't mean I want him over Hayes though.

should have taken a lesson from Crosby

they could afford great players around him because he was only making 8.7 mil a year

and they won Cups

Could have even taken $10 as opposed to $12.5 and been good.

The best is that Chiarelli blamed everybody but himself. Just so amazingly stupid it's difficult to comprehend.

Great run, best case scenario in a rebuild situation...
System has taken hold , work & effort every shift ,all the time
Now with turmoil in the NHL & our players never higher in value
STRIKE ...Pry a top center out of Edm or St lou but ready in Nylander 101
whose available how bout who aint right now
Chtyl,Pionk ..... yeah there playing high end hockey
BUT we need grade A talent to get this team to next level,
HANK has got to be in play if a great deal for a top center type or scorer can be had
we have an advantage of good play ,make moves to upgrade talent line
Strome has a higher ceiling if he catches on or gets it in this system of hustle
so i like that trade , MUST keep the rebuild plan as top priority ,If done right ,this team could be a top 10 next season,& for many more ,Gotta love the D prospects coming starting later in season & next
win streak is fun ,seeing better talent than expected is better , enjoy the run L G R

Even if this team regresses a bit, they are so entertaining to watch! Unlike last year, when many looked like they were just going through the motions, this team busts its a$$ every night and are REALLY easy to root for...

No on the buyouts. Both Smith and Shatty have value and could be traded. Staal's play isn't all that bad. His contract, w/ cap continuing to rise insn't the end all/be all.

Hayes is more versatile than Zib, and Hayes when playing like he is now, is a better player. Hayes, when playing like he is now is a beast, but even when Zibby is scoring....he's not a type of player who controls play/puck posession. In addition, Zib has yet to prove that he can play a full season since he's been w/ NYR. Maybe trade Zuuc, Skjei and ? for Nylander. Namestnikov can be traded for decent haul if he continues his good play. Sign Panarin in offseason. Only thing is that with Hayes, Howden, Chytil, and Andersson....there till isn't a true #1...

Who is a true #1 has been discussed over and over on this site. I don’t have a specific answer but would guess a true #1 centerman is a smaller list than most believe. Would be great to have one but you potentially can win or make a deep run without it. Vegas was a collective whole with Fleury last year, San Jose made a run with an older Thornton and Pavelski.

Hank trade will never happen

He seems to have accepted situation, and way the team is playing now will give him hope for another run in a couple seasons. Unless a "true" cup contender loses their number 1 right around trade deadline, Hank would never OK trade, and that might not even pry him away from his beloved NYC and all that the city has to offer him...like Barneys

I agree, but I am still holding out hope for one to arrive!

Howden seems like the real deal too...IF Chytil continues the strong play and can do same at center than the middle looks much brighter. ALOT OF IFS though

Would just love to have one guy on this team that scores, hits, leads, wins faceoffs, fights, plays D, and kills penalties......AND does it season after season.

You know...a Messier reincarnate

Is that really too much to ask?

More than accepted
He’s probably the main reason they are where they are. He started the season playing very well and the team has since built off that. I gotta think these young guys (Zib included) feed off this guys work ethic. We’ve been blessed to watch Lundqvist all these years.
