You said if he was 29 putting up the same numbers. - AdamFrench
Age plays a part, no doubt about it.
But you can't compare a UFA's value to an RFA.....it will never equate!
Nylander wants to get paid like an UFA while being an RFA. |

Let me ask you, if Nylander were 29yrs old, would he have a $7mill value today? - Cooshie
Yes.
If Nylander continued averaging 60+ points across multiple seasons he'd most assuredly be rewarded 7M+ at 29. |

From Steve Simmons:
Some perspective on William Nylander:
He was 109th in goal scoring in the NHL last season.
He was 59th in assists.
He was 66th in points scoring.
And he wants Top 30 money. - Atomic Wedgie
anything with SImmons name attached has less than zero cred.
with that said...
the one fact that is missing - and I do mean fact...
Nylander had less points the Pastrnak and therefore should not be paid as much as Pastrnak. A 5% change in the CAP between when Pastrnak signed and this passed summer does not magically take Willy HairStyle's salary projection from 6.2-6.5 suddenly to 8.0.
Last time I check 1.05 x 6.5 doesn't equal much than 6.8 roughly.

Name three D who have done more than Rielly so far this season?
You can’t.
End of conversation.
At the very least, Rielly is a Norris candidate at this point. - As_I_See_It
Remember when Mike Green didn't win despite scoring 31 goals and 73 points? Nor even make Team Canada as a 6th or 7th defender? Weird poop has happened. |

My point is that he wants more $$'s as an RFA than what equivalent UFA players would get.
As someone pointed out, we don't actually know what was offered and what he wants....so it's really hard to debate. |

The problem with your above post is youre comparing Nylanders 3rd year to Marners 2nd year.
The issue here is timing. Nylander got kinda screwed by it, sort of. Marner is about to break out in the year before his contract expires. Hes set to surpass Nylanders 60pts by a wide margin. Nylander should have broke out in his final year. He didnt. This is why Marner will make, and has earned, to be paid more by a wide margin.
If Marner looked like a 60 pt player, in his final
year of his contract, youd be right. He looks like so much more. - systemtool
I know. I make that point later |

It's appears that the trend now with younger players is to demand UFA type dollars during their RFA years. The death of the bridge is at hand, perhaps? With the lack of offer sheeting agents and players want to maximize as much $$$ as they can as early as they can.
Having said that, we do have absolutely zero idea what's offered. It seems pretty clear they either still worlds apart or have agreed on a deal that will be tendered on Dec. 1st to maximize cap hit savings.
But yeah, who the hell knows? It's maddening. |

No one knows for sure....can only discuss based on speculation.
However, it is HIGHLY doubtful that if your numbers were what they are actually talking about, a deal wouldn't have already been completed. If the Leafs could sign him for between 6.5 and 7mill.....he becomes a WAY more tradeable commodity as well. Can't see that scenario in any way being reality. - Cooshie
They said last week durning 2nd int that the leafs just recently offered 6mil. If that’s the case Is there any doubt why he hasn’t signed yet? |

I saw someone earlier did the math and the Pasternak deal is worth like 7.5mil in today’s cap numbers.
