From Steve Simmons:

Some perspective on William Nylander:
He was 109th in goal scoring in the NHL last season.
He was 59th in assists.
He was 66th in points scoring.
And he wants Top 30 money.

- Atomic Wedgie

Steve Simmons is a salad tosser.

Nylander wants top 30 money because he thinks he will be a top 30 player for most of that contract. I guess if he were 28 with 6 to 7yrs of evidence, he wouldn't be able to say that......
Anyhow, let him take a bridge and prove his value if he really believes that.

It's true Adam, but I'm a big fan of his penchant for controlled zone entries so he gains a point or two for that.
- TheMussel

you say 'decent shot' but i think he's got quite a bit better shot than just decent.

Sure, he's got a great wrister, I'll give you that. He's not an Ovie out there but can definitely pick a corner from the dots.

Reading a good book on Viking history to go with enjoying Norsemen. I like that apparently crossdressing was a huge no no and that the Swedes hated the Finns unless it was their shamans...who they thought were rightful to kill after getting their spell because they wore robes and scarves. Only AFTER getting their spells. Nylander embodying his disgusting ancestors but with money instead!

There's about 100 players in NHL that they will be a top30 player going forward - and want to be paid like that.
So the math on that doesn't really work out.
Nylander is a really good 2nd liner / fringe 1st liner (think JVR)

The Mussel's seaside scouting report:

Nylander hit over 20 goals and 60 points in each of the first two seasons he played in the NHL, so that puts him in pretty good company if you look at past comparables. He was also named the 2017 WHC MVP after going 14 points in 10 games.

He's not a heavy player defensively by any means, and isn't great down low and digging for the puck, but he knows where to be on a breakout, has a really good stick, and creates a lot of neutral zone turnovers.

He's pretty fast, great skater, has a great pass, and a decent shot. He plays around the perimeter quite a bit in the o-zone but has shown flashes of driving the net and dangling through competition. This is something he should do more if he wants to up his game.

Also he's real purdy and has long luscious blonde hair but he's Swedish so I publicly hate him even though I kind of like him.

JVR was dumb enough to sign a long term deal when he was still not great.

The norsemen were probably just afraid of the weird ass Finnish gods who embodied the entire world rather than just being fated actors within it.

I think Liljegren is a more natural talent than Sandin with a higher ceiling, offensively. Although, Sandin in his short sample size has been pretty amazing offensively with the Marlies.
I do agree that overall game, Sandin might have edge.

- Cooshie

Gareth Wheeler who scouts and breaks down the Marlies on the Athletic said Sandin has moved pass Liljegren.

Liljegren apparently is the best 3 zone passer in the leafs system but his skating and shot is average which until he proves other wise will hinder him on being a high end D.

I agree and think that a player should prove he can get there before expecting to get paid like they were already there.

I was just suggesting that at only 2yr in to his career, he probably thinks (with some bad fatherly advise) that it's a forgone conclusion that he will be a top 30......well, take your bridge contract, prove it and then get paid like it!

I have not seen any rankings that show Sandin ahead of Liljegren as of yet....
based on what he has done in less than 10 games, if he continues, I think all those rankings will change.

It’s not about points it’s about watching the plays they make...especially for D.

Liljegren isn’t magically going to get faster in the next 10 games.

I am not talking about points...just current rankings.
Like I said, if Sandin continues his current play (not just his points), those rankings could change pretty quickly.

Rielly is leading a d-core that has given up the 6th fewest goals in the NHL. If that trend continues, and he puts up 80 points, he should be top 3 d-men for sure.

Also he's paired with meth cook impersonator Ron Hainsey

Nylander hadnt really hit his prime yet. Hes a very good talented player, but how good he really can be remains to be seen.
- systemtool

Only thing Nylander has hit his prime in this year is in the Sonnet Insurance commercials.

With comparable numbers to Marner, better even strength numbers but was on second PP. The real issue is how much less than Marner should he be paid. He thinks the gap is smaller than what Dubas thinks.

can we stop dycking around with this nonsense, and just make St. Louis an offer for Paryako?

he's not got concussion history (like Ekblad)
he's signed to a decent mid-range contract for another 4-5 years
he's played with Rielly already
he's not some used up tired guy with attitude (like Doughty, or Karlsson)
he's playing with a team that's kind of at a cross roads and needs to make changes

who else ticks all these boxes?
