I bet Marner signs for a bit less, probably 9-10, but he will get a lot more than Nylander because he'll have a ppg or greater season under his belt while Nylander will only have one shortened rookies season and 2 61 point seasons to negotiate with.

I genuinely think they only want to play here (Matthews said that privately in the Tavares interviews and publicly, in a Friedman interview) and are not going to be difficult to sign, nor do I think they'll cripple the team.

Nylander, he's the X factor: not really critical to our core, but I still think he'd put us over the top, probably more so than what kind of return he'd fetch for "help on D", which I think we'd lose unless we're talking about a Slavin/Hamilton/Trouba type player.

simply not true - just compare 5v5 points/60mins and you'll see marner produces more points 5v5 than nylander.

Sorry, got my numbers backwards. Marner is 2.06 p/60 and Nylander 2.04. I guess the difference is $4.2m.

Marner especially I wouldn't be surprised if he signs a friendly deal. He clearly loves the Leafs and being in Toronto. Was a big Leafs fan. Matthews, if his statements are true, well, that'd be awesome.
