I know you are being sarcastic, but camera-friendly was what Ditka cared about with his team of champs.
- I Am The Breadman

Ditka was camera friendly? I think the phrase "with a face like that he belongs in radio" comes to mind.

It all seriousness what does it matter if the player is camera friendly? The greatest player of all time, Bobby Orr, had less personality than a blade of grass. Do you think Boston cares?

Of course they did. Why do you think they let him go to the Hawks.

The salary cap won't rise enough , it's avg rise each year is about 2.8 million.

The only way forward is for the owners, league and players come out of their bubble and realize either they need to raise the salary cap 100 million and the floor to 85 million or the players can no longer demand these 8 to 15 million dollar a year range .
Eliminate the cap recapture penalty, NMC, NTC, and change who can get 8 year terms based on age this way teams aren't stuck with guys whom are 36 through 40 years old watering down the league.

But I agree the rules and cap need to change to allow the league to grow and be successful.

- Taylorst1

You really do live in a bubble - where the real world doesn't matter - don't you.....

Sure, the owners will magically raise the cap to levels they can't afford, and the players will say, ok owners - pay us less - we don't need it anyway. And while you're at it, take away the only security older players have - they don't need it either.

The rules and cap are a sh1tstorm - created by both sides that really don't care about the other. The escalator is a huge sticking point to the player's union, and the 50/50 split in revenue is an even bigger sticking point to the owners.

So please stick to your little NHL19 fantasy teams - financial instability in the NHL is way over your pay grade!!!!!!

True, but it's hard to argue that Saad has been a mere beneficiary of late...witness goal in game vs Minny.
- HawkintheD

Beneficiary of Fortin then for the primary assist. Jk, I know he put "the moves" on Stalock.

Meh...to me Saad has always seemed a little uncomfortable around cameras, maybe not the sharpest knife in the drawer and not what you'd characterize as a real "firecracker" in the personality department...which if you go by interviews equates to about 90% of all hockey players.

Can't remember what all this is about but have to say I really like how Saad has been playing since the white jersey thing. He's definitely been even better of late and you have to wonder if some of that can be attributed to playing with more confidence as a result of scoring; and/or playing a bit looser with a different guy behind the bench.

- HawkintheD

There's no maybe. But he has shown that he takes direction. His recent attitude flap was not a good thing, but he did bounce so credit there. I think he has to grow up a bit and hope all the money isn't detrimental for his attitude.

Come on the goalie the Hawks kept, Belfour, to trade Hasek wasn't exactly chopped liver. And if you were a GM, ummm sorry, would you have kept the prospect who consistantly turned his back to the shooter, threw his stick away and made many other unorthodox moves or would you have kept the other guy who played the game how 99.99999% of goalies approach the game? In hindsight Hasek was incredible but few would have predicted he'd be as successful as he turned out to be.

.

- paulr

There is only 1 player in the history of earth that could have played that style and been successful, and it was Hasek. No doubt back then, and IMO now, the most important piece of equipment a goalie has is his stick and that freak would throw his.

I always said if I had a son who was a goalie I would have forbid him to watch Hasek and if I caught him doing so I'd take his equipment away from him. Hasek did everything a goalie was taught not to do.

My point to Z3 was he didn't like Panarin's personality, thought he was in it for himself. I said the same can be said for Saad. I said he wore a white shirt, got on camera and let his feelings be known. Seabrook was scratched and handled the situation better than Saad who wasn't scratched. I also like Saad's play of the past 2-2 1/2 weeks. Go back 2 pages and you will see the same thing written by me there. Big D took it as camera friendly and it spun from there. He kind of skewed what I said, by focusing on 1 word, not the whole point. I never said he has to be a certain way in front of a camera, or that matters more than scoring goals. I just said he didn't like the situation and didn't hide it.

Ditka's millions of commercials would argue with you otherwise haha.

There is a reason Bovqist was sent to London - to play in a top junior program under a coach who had a long NHL career and is known for developing excellent pros. And his brother Mark is one of the best bird dogs in the business. You can be sure the Hawks will have a complete assessment of their player and it will be accurate. They didn't draft this kid #8 with any intention of trading him.
- RickJ

You would know better but I don't remember a better developmental path than Bovquist going to powerhouse London under the tutelage of the Hunters and playing with Bouchard.... It's just perfect in every way.

The goalie stick is cumbersome for a goalie, especially when the play is in tight. So in dropping the stick Hasek became more agile. It seemed that not as many pucks went through him as other goalies and I credit his agility after dropping his stick for that.

Your second paragraph is funny to me. I used to tell goalies I had on my teams not to watch Belfour. He was easy short side high and pucks went through him and under him when he was on his way down, but all the kids wanted to fall down automatically like Eddie the Eagle. There's a time for everything, but doing the same thing every time no matter what is not the best way to get the job done.

From some of your posts I can tell you might just have some connections. So what? For many years so did I. But that doesn't mean you have to be such a wiener all the time. You sound like a little female dog.

For some reason I always think they are the same age, but Panarin is 1 year older. My knock on Saad, like your knock on Panarin, is personality. Only being in it for yourself. I think Saad can have a sour attitude as well. Being told to wear a white jersey. His conference on it, he did his best to hide what he thought and felt, just not effectively. Seabrook took being scratched better than Saad did who wasn't even scratched. Saad has bounced back in a big way the last 2-2 1/2 weeks, which is always welcome.
- I Am The Breadman

I disagree with this accessment of Saad completely. Saad cares. Saad isn’t in it for himself. Saad will skate through walls when he is playing with confidence. Q handled him horribly this year. Treated him like an unimportant rookie moving him all over the line-up. Treated him with a lack of respect.

“Personality” isn’t really the most descriptive word here - caring, loyalty, good attitude and the lack of these attributes for Panarin are what we are talking about.

Also Saad does fine in front of the cameras - it may not be natural for him but he does it successfully. He is one of the few that step forward. Also for the poster who questions his smarts, it is just shyness - and don’t do this in any event, it is not cool.

I think it was more gory than GOT, just my opinion of course. I think of the scene where they hung the guy and then gutted him, and they showed the guts spilling out of him. Wouldn't have shown that on GOT, at least I don't think.

Saad was mostly not very good last season - and well into this season, before the "white sweater" incident.

Can't blame Q for wondering if Saad would ever get back to being what he was - and for trying to effect some kind of cure.

Seems to have worked....
