Rasmus Asplund (1st Star) and Lawrence Pilut each with 1+1 as Rochester comes from behind with a three-goal third period to defeat Hartford 4-3. Pilut has points in seven straight. Nylander assist - points in four of his last five.

The Swede-nado is coming...

I think half of the success this year is thanks to Botts. He has assembled a strong team for Rochester (some parts he added, so were previous draft picks) and is really making it competitive enough, where D men here are looking over their shoulder. In the previous years, was any starting D in Buffalo worried at all of anyone in Rochester?

Now we have Pilut (22 years old and tied for lead in AHL scoring as a D man!), Redman (not NHL caliber, but tearing it up in AHL, so I would not hate him in Buffalo, short term), Guhle (fan favorite, still has to grow to consistently play in NHL, and his stock is actually falling, so I think he could be a trade target), Casey Nelson (as a 7th, pushing guys as he could start).

The trade involving ROR (sorry everyone) was to make the team deeper on all lines. Yes ROR produced points and played a lot of ice time, but seemed to fall apart late in games, costing the team the game (happened a bunch of times). The trade was to bring in two vets to help reduce goals against, a young prospect and a 1st (to help when Mitts and Dahlin need to get paid). The vets also help teach the young guys the way to play and bump down young guys to Rochester to be seasoned up. Strong depth move. Not to mention losing that long term contract to be able to afford, say a Skinner.

I give Botts an A right now, because he does not rush or push things. Not to mention the future players doing well in Rochester and the 3 first rounders. I mean, Nylander is not even talked about (wish he was, cause that means he would be playing better), but if he can help this team next year, that would be perfect! Cheap contract still and high offensive potential.

We have common ground at the $8.5 for 8 years part

There is just no way I can see him signing for less than $8 million a year.

Especially closer to $7.5 million that was suggested

- Stripes77

$7.5 would be a dream for the team cap. Doubt that happens, but if he can produce with Eichel and we can score a top end RW, that line would be unstoppable.

I trust Botts with contract negotiation.

I feel he knows some kinda loop hole to get them under. If hes able to get Cindy and Geno under along with some other high end talent then the Sabres shouldn't be too hard.

#Bills HC Sean McDermott on the potential of bringing Nathan Peterman back to the practice squad: Not at this time. We wish him and his family the best. They're class acts through and through.

Ya know. Just in case anyone was hoping or more episodes of the Peterman show.

I like all of this. For as much as I'm still a little worried Housley is the answer, Botts has been very shrewd in his mini-rebuild. Things look good.

And I watch as much Amerks hockey as I can, Nylander does look better, especially in his own zone. Didn't look, but I believe he's just shy of the ppg mark. Things are looking up for him, I am shocked about Guhle though, not in a good way.

You know, when I wrote that, I said to myself:

"Just watch, some asswipe is gonna go and make this a racist emmeffing thing, and I will wind up disappointed."

And then I said, "Naw, not even among this group of doorknobs."

Great play, Gordo. Don't hurt yourself today.

I don' think Skinner waives his NTC to come to Buffalo if he is not at least wanting to resign, I would like to believe that the two sides have talked.

i can tell you one thing for sure. If we don't resign Skinner Botts is going to have some splaining to do.......

Using the Kane vs Skinner comparable

Kane:

Has played 595 out of a possible 725 games just over 82% of his games

Skinner:

Has played 599 out of a possible 642 games just over 93% of his games

Take into account of ppg .62 for Kane and .66 for Skinner and amount of games per season:

Kane based on his career averages, plays about 67 games per season. So with his ppg average and games per season he averages 41.5 points per year.

Skinner plays 76 games per season. at .66 ppg he averages 50.1 points per season. 9 more points per season on average.

Is this alone worth an extra million per year? No, but both players are supposed to be goal scorers right?

Breaking down their goals per game:

Kane .324 goals per game
Skinner .363 goals per game

Games played per season production:

Kane 21.7 goals per season
Skinner 27.5 goals per season

6 more goals per season

So Skinner averages 6 more goals per season and 3 more assist per season than Kane does based on career numbers.

Now we have a small sample size of production of playing in Buffalo and it is hard to compare the two teams.

But lets look at the roles each are playing with their current team:

Kane is a second or third line winger in San Jose and is getting paid $7.5 million per season. Currently he is playing on the 3rd line.

Skinner is a first line LWer who has fit right in with Jack.

Skinner is playing over a ppg pace with Buffalo.

Kane was never even close to that with his time here.

Getting Moulson off the books and getting big savings from Pommer, Bogo and Hunwick over the next two seasons should give him the wiggle room he needs. It's really 2-3 years down the road where it gets tight depending on the raises guys like Mitts and Dahlin get.
