Wingers arent hard to come by, not a concern at all.
- Fakepartofme

there's always Jagr!

he would single handedly bring the average age of the roster up by two years.

Would the majority be happy if on Dec 1st.......Nylander signed a 7 year deal, front end loaded, with a 7m cap hit from years 2-7 ? Without a NTC
- Mount Albert

Not me. I say go with a bridge only. Nylander is oozing with talent, but I want to see him play on a line without Mathews, and see if he can still produce. Didn't like his stats when AM was injured last year.

i mean another winger on his line.

?? - Matthews - Kapanen

if Nylander comes back, might be

Kapanen-Matthews-Nylander

If Nylander is traded - and that's my assumption; either this season or before next season - Leafs need another top6 winger to play on Matthews' line; they need a winger more than a d-man.

That proposed Nylander to the Rangers trade would be one of the most brutal blunders in the history of organized sport. In the history of all human activity actually. That proposal demeans us all.
- Zezel

He will not be traded to the Rangers its a dumb discussion. I think he resigns.

However, I will guarantee you if he is traded you will not like who you get back in return. 9 out of 10 times in this scenario the team who is forced to make this trade losses out unfortunately in every sport

can't have that here.

One signed his contract before the 16-17 season and one just signed his deal this offseason. What’s the % of the overall cap for each deal? That’s a better comparison. Plus, I think every Rangers fan would agree with you that Skjei has regressed from his rookie campaign. But when Rielly signed his deal, many thought his role would be a top-four shutdown defensive role under Babcock, the offense has been an unexpected benefit.
- airjan23

I wouldn't say that.

Maybe not to the extent that he's going right now, yeah, but offense from him was completely expected once he was actually given offensive opportunities.

Drafted 5th overall in his draft, and very very arguably, the best player in that draft.

apart from UG and his 'Tavares will never sign with Leafs because of taxes' story (told 100 times) I don't see how some people are presenting opinions as 'facts'.

Apparently Skinner wants 9-9.5 in a long term deal.

I'm still waiting for the transcripts of the communications between Matthews, Marner, and Nylanders respective agents and Dubas indicating that each would have been willing to sign to cap friendly contracts before the season started.

"We can and we will" statement by Dubas definitely implies that.

To paraphrase, Dubas said that he'll make all three work under the cap. This does not in any way reveal the intentions of the players and their agents, particularly before the season started.

So he was either making things up, or he's not good at maths?

Probably him or Forsberg. But the '12 draft is for sure one of the weakest last 20 years...

I won't speculate on his abilities or intentions.

The point is, when you say something like

"Dubas could have had Matthews at 10, Marner at 8, and Nylander at 6 before the season started #firedubas"

and you don't state that it is your opinion, you're presenting it as a fact without any evidence or merit.

Your skills of deduction seem pretty off. He was being confident in his plan and ability to get all the players signed under the cap. Nowhere did he say "All these players agreed to take less money and sign for xxx...thats just made up bullpoop.
