Nylander is a better shooter than kapanen nylander makes tremendous plays and sees the ice well in O zone but kapanen is a better skater and plays a 200 foot game better defensively and can handle going into the corners in O zone which Willy shys away from. No matter the outcome we will be a better team than we are now with Matthews and Willy returning or Matthews and new players via trade.

Remember when cliff fletcher made the blockbuster trade with Calgary to bring in Dougie Gilmour. What excitement followed after that on the ice was incredible. Could you imagine Dubas pulls of a good trade haul for nylander and we get that much better as a team ❤️👌🏻😎

We have lots of smaller, quicker wingers. Johnsson, Kapanen, Nylander. We have no physical presence on the top 3 lines. You have to give talent to get talent. Leafs need to make such a move, to get to the next stage of contention. It's not enough to just make the playoffs or win a round. The Leafs need to get out of the division, to have a chance to get to the finals. Leafs need to make such a deal for a player like Tkachuk. Nylander is the bait. Time to sell high on this guy.

I wouldn't - I think Liljegren should be in Leafs' untouchable group.

YOu must be kidding right?

First off, I think anyone that says someone is untouchable loses all credibility for their opinions. There is no such thing as "untouchable"....Hell, Conor McDavid is a tradeable asset if someone wanted to make a dumb trade. You don't think Edmonton would take Matthews, Marner and Rielly for McDavid!!???

Second, Liljegren is your "untouchable" asset that would hold up a trade for Ekblad?
Sorry buddy, but you don't block a trade for one of the best young RHD in the NHL for Liljegren....that is pure insanity.

One signed his contract before the 16-17 season and one just signed his deal this offseason. What’s the % of the overall cap for each deal? That’s a better comparison. Plus, I think every Rangers fan would agree with you that Skjei has regressed from his rookie campaign. But when Rielly signed his deal, many thought his role would be a top-four shutdown defensive role under Babcock, the offense has been an unexpected benefit.

Ekblad is one major hit away from retirement.

Not blaming anyone. Several in the hockey industry thought he may end in a shutdown role based on deployment by Babcock his first year on Toronto. Rielly has been phenomenal no doubt. I am not saying Skjei won’t rebound, but agreeing with you that he has regressed substantially.

I do wonder what the hell Nylander is thinking. What is his bottom line. No one is going to pay him 8M, so he isnt willing to take just under 7M to stay with a good team. Its crazy to think.

I hope he comes to his senses at the end of this.

You have to be offered it for him to accept. By all accounts the leafs just passed the 6mil threshold on their offer last week. That isn't even close to serious offer yet if that is the case.

Penguins should trade Crosby too I guess.

Matthews is one hit away from destroying his shoulders.

Everybody is at risk to be hurt. But one thing going for Ekblad is that he's a monster and he's bigger than most players so the odds of him being the nail is less likely than him being the hammer.

Completely different era, different way of thinking. Shots to the head were perfectly legal. A guy like Stevens gets suspended 20 games for the hits he laid on Lindros. His career got (frank)ed up because he had multiple concussions in a short period of time. Ekblad doesn't have that issue. His concussions were identified, diagnosed and he took time off every time and they're all spread out. Crosby has had multiple concussions too. It's such a stupid issue to think Ekblad is 1 hit away from being retired. I guess Crosby should be traded too because he's 1 hit away from being done too.
