Remember when the Blues suspended him because he came into camp after the lockout weighing over 300 lbs?
lol - BINGO!
And the fans nicknamed him Tka-chunk.
Good times. |

That's if he signs a team friendly deal. If he hoses us then its gotta be Limp Willie or something. - The Law

my biggest issue with having a tkchuk on the Leafs would be trying to spell it - senstroll
I wouldn't mind a Tkachuk Nylander trade....
Love his game - tough as nails, exactly what the Leafs need....
I think that would be a good trade in terms of getting similar quality but with more toughness (a Leafs need).
Not sure why Calgary would do it though. |

Tkachuk and Willy N are equal in value
Hamonic quite a bit better than Leivo - and I like Leivo. - plantheparade
I give the edge to nylander over tkafack when it comes to scoring and shooting.
Tkafack has more bite to him though. |

I am really curious what Duby does with Gardiner.
Based on his comments after last season and the Leafs not trading JVR or Bozak, i doubt he trades gardiner at the deadline. Could be wrong
They just cant afford him, even assuming he signs another team friendly deal.
Also he is getting up there. so I wouldnt want more than a 4 year deal
Either way, Max knows Dubas screwed up on Gardiner - senstroll
lol ...
I agree, he's a goner. Asset management says Dermott takes that role and the Leafs need to squeeky-bum the defence like Pitt did for a few years. Keep trading 2nd and 3rd rounders for dmen at the TD and hope the odd prospect exceeds expectations.
..edit - in the summer. All hands on deck for this Cup run then figure poop out in the summer. |

Unless a defenceman of equal or greater talent is coming back, there is no franking way in hell that the Leafs trade Gardiner.
It simply isn't happening, despite the great advice that Uggie is giving Dubas. - Atomic Wedgie
what are the odds that a prospect is ready to play in the NHL by the end of the season (like Dermott was) and he can step into top 4 and you slide in someone at the bottom.
it would just suck to let him also walk for nothing |

On leafs lunch they were talking about how gardiner is #5 in the last 3 years on points 5v5. Only behind doughty, hedman, klingberg and someone else. They talk about him making 2/3 gaffes a game but probably 17-20 great plays a game. He’ll be a tricky one forsure when it comes to contract.

id say Willie and tckuk are pretty close.
what I dont now is if Hamonic has value or is a salary dump - senstroll
He has more value than leivo. |

Watching him at his sons draft, I was shocked how huge he was (and not in a good way!) LOL.
Reminded me a bit of seeing Kirby Puckett many years after his playing days.....guy gained like 200lbs!! |

Gardiner isn't going anywhere. He has clearly been working with the coaches on his defensive play and it is getting better. We'll see where he's at after the season, the only way he isn't resigned is if the Leafs can find someone better. |

His biggest value is that he's insurance in case something were to happen to Rielly. Rielly gets all the primary PP time right now but if he went down for a bit Gardiner slides right in their nicely.
No cup contender trades a Gardiner going into the playoffs. |

I give the edge to Tkachuk in scoring and Nylander in playmaking ability (and puck possession). Tkachuk on Matthews line though would allow Hyman to move down (if Babcock ever though about playing Hyman with Matthews again)....he would do what Hyman does but with way more skill...a Tkachuk, Matthews, Kapanen line would be down right nasty for other teams to play against....speed, grit and crazy skill .... |

For the record, the Wedgie version of the scheme is mutual termination of contract on July 2nd - which saves us flipping the Coyotes a 2nd round draft pick.
Getting Marleau to retire may sound like a pipe dream now, but after the Leafs win the Stanley Cup in June, it will be a lot easier. - Atomic Wedgie
that or he'll be hungry for more. |

He's going to want huge bucks, and there will be plenty of teams willing to give it to him.
I just don't think the Leafs can afford him after this year. |

Good point.
If you knew your team was going to win 4 Stanley Cups in a row, why would you retire after just one? |

OR, the players father is seeking $2-$2.5 million more than his sons comparables and Dubas really wasn't expecting something that stupid. - GreatGigInTheSky
there you go... it really is that simple.
at some point, hopefully in the next 10 days Willy wakes up and goes, you Mr agent and you Dad, need to shut the f___ up. This is my decision. If I sit out I lose approximately 5-6m which I will never get back.

Mathew Tkachuk was in the middle of a great battle of Alberta Saturday night. Do you expect the same from Brady in the next battle of Ontario? |

I'd make that trade, if it was doable. Tkachuk gives you an intangible that the Leafs need, once they get to the playoffs. If you see Boston again, you'll deal with the Rat. A banger and a going to the net presence will give Matthews room to operate and drive the other team's defense crazy. Willy is a talented winger with offensive skill, but he's one to vanish in a hard fought, physical game. Leafs need this type of winger. |

Remember when cliff fletcher made the blockbuster trade with Calgary to bring in Dougie Gilmour. What excitement followed after that on the ice was incredible. Could you imagine Dubas pulls of a good trade haul for nylander and we get that much better as a team ❤️👌🏻😎 |
